ArticFire (Germ) vs red (SO), Part 2

Post by red »

Both sides decided on rematch with almost the same setup as the first part. This time Soviets open the game with scattered artillery and rocket bombardment producing light casualties. Germans fly a single Bf-110 that takes out MCs and supresses some AA guns on a southern hill.

Bah I did?! I told that bloody plane turn 2 damit. Guess it didn't take. Doing it on turn one is pointless cause I don't get to see it's flyby.

In any event this time around the vh's are per turn type which should spice things up. They are only worth 20/turn thow so risk/reward is going to be a factor. For instace every tank I lose negates holding an entire 4 vh group for a turn (actualy a little more).

In any event SO bombardment scared some inf and an MC squad but thats about it. German forces edge foward. Recon reports very little. One of my MC squads took some long range shots at an MC squad on a hill with no effect (big shock 2% change :D )

Rear forces prepare for the inevetable apearence of SO special ops and try to keep vounerable equipment away from the most obvious points of insertion.

Soviet recon locates two German Flamers slowly advancing forward. T-34 is sent to try its gunnery skill and it manages to damage one of them. Soviet artillery fires one more salvo onto suspected areas but no evident casualties. German artillery is quiet. Germans fly Bf-110 that takes out a T-34 and a Stuka attacks another T-34 but fails to get a direct hit. Il-2 attacks a second Flamer located by earlier recon and kills it with its cannon.

Soviet forces have already taken up positions on the vh hills. This was expected. In the middle a PzIV takes a few shots a T34 but missed. Other then that german lines are slowly moving foward trying to avoid the soviet hill overwatch's.

Germans lose a couple of Pz IVs. One to partisans and another to Il-2. In the south a column of German armor got caught in a barrage of air and artillery strikes. Another partisan unit gets caught by 88 AA gun so they wont last long.

Soviet artillery fire was not nearly as effective as their propaganda suggested :D

This turn was spent mainly dealing with those pesky SO special ops running around where they are not welcome. I belive it was 2 or 3 units of them died today at the cost of imobilization of one of my AA trucks.

In the north a soviet MC squad gets punished for straying way to far into my lines.

In the middle area a few shots are traded between tanks with no hits from either side.

In the south a german guard squad is routed out and slaughtered.

The new german artillery came within range this turn causing a fair amount of casualties on the soviet side :D And that was with them mostly missing their assigned targets! Think I am going to grow to really like these artillery.

This turm saw a lot of action. Germans flew Ju-87 Stuka that bombed and hit AA position overloooking the southern vhexes. Stuka didn't make it out though. Its remains are burning in the woods now. Soviet Air Force flew several missions hitting advancing German armor so there's another Flamer tank burning in the woods.

Lots of action this turn. German forces engage various T34's. While we managed to kill 3 and some infantry we lost 2 PzIV's in the process :(

Due to the sturdy armour of the T34's more panzers where forced to engage then we would have liked this early in the game. Especialy since a few flamepanzers are left in really bad positions.

A soviet AA postion overlooking the northern sector was torn apart. This is view ironicly as more of a valuable achivement then the destruction of 3 T34's.

Massive tank combat in the south. Pz IVs and Flamepanzers versus onslaught of T-34s . Suffering moderate casualties (considering they were attacking) T-34s clear the very border of the southern flank. Prior recon indicates that there's not much standing in the way for a breakthrough(may be some AA/ATGs) with most German armor committed in the south central direction. German Air Force wittingly flew a mission at the end of the turn and shook up the Soviet armor group fresh out of combat ready to move further so we'll see if my guys are still committed in the next turn. Besides overwhelmed (and destroyed) Pz IVs , a couple of Flamepanzers lost their heads one due to Il-2 gun. Another Il-2 flew to destroy an ammo depot to stop those nasty German SPAs from reloading later on but the target although damaged still stands :(

Lots of action. Panzer divesion engage full bore near the center vh's. A few T34's do not survive the turn. However not nearly enough where destroyed. Aparently my tanks forgot to bring the live amo and are shooting blanks

Fast response artillery hammers the southern half of the map. Air strikes and targets are called in to try and help the soon to be attacked panzers in the middle. One Ju was lost in the air raids however it was out of bombs anyhow :P

The very south is not nearly as bad off as my soviet opponent thinks :) The middle however is going to become a bloodbath over the next couple of turns. Supporting panzers and the main thrust will most likly be assaulted next turn by soviet tank divesions reported by air on the other side of the hill.

The north is remarkably quiet , a MC squad snatches some vh's.

Seems like all the action is going on in the south-central part of the map. Soviets continue their push somewhat stalled by the German air and artillery strikes. Germans lost several AFVs along with Soviets but this turn the losses are moderate. German armor appears to be heading to interdic Soviet advance. Also Soviet AA units shot down another Stuka, those things die fast.
