RE: OKH Plan 1942 - Alpha AAR
I noticed in the last screenshot that many of your infantry units are regiments. Do you have the option to split/recombine units? If you do, is there any restriction on which unit can do this? (ie. is there a switch in the editor that allows a unit to be split)
Thanks

Yes you can. The regiments have to be of the same division and in the same hex to recombine. German and Finn units can breakdown any type of division into 3 regiments...

(BAR) Well the Soviets wanted to take Voronezh back badly. They hurled attacks across the center... A note, Joel informed me that on the challenging level the AI also gets the pleasure that all units get there full MP's, aside from attack and defence bonus's...This should be very interresting...Heres a ss...

(BAR) In the south attacks beat up my Rum Cav Corps and they still pressed my flank to Rostov...

The Soviet AI read my mind[;)]
Near Voronezh, do you have 3 Panzer divisions and 1 Motorized division? It's a bit difficult to see with the divisions broken down into regiments. Are you going to retake Voronezh by a direct attack, or are you going to try to break through the fairly weak flanks and encircle the city first? This time, you'll be attacking an urban hex across a river if you try a direct attack.

Comrade, in a month or more 1st PzA will take Voronezh, 4th PzA's job is to roll the line northward...Everyone is moving towards Moscow, aside for Rostov...

Reports are out Heinrici's 4th Army led by the LVI PzC closed the gap and has two bridgeheads...On another note, I will shorten the lines and press the Soviets to my game. It takes some time. Look at the divisions I free up after the pocket is cleared. Sure I drew his reserves into the center, thats where I want them now.... Just stay tuned....

RE: OKH Plan 1942 - Alpha AAR
Ah the beauty of chess. I've played chess all my life...In a nutshell, control the center and be able to attack the flanks. The Germans I guess didn't play much, or at least Hitler didn't, and the Russians, their masters of the game...I have a rail network now, trucks (supply) are low so I must keep them keep close to the railheads...Duh...Two things you have to watch. In (red) the motor pool. It affects the active units in supply and movement. I'm streaching it now big time. Secondly the AP (admin points) level (yellow), it gives me and amount that I can spend per turn that I can adjust commands (transferers)...Ah the balance act...Thus I just can't go crazy and attack everywhere, I have to use what I have, and think turns ahead...

I'm glad you have nipped out the Oranienbaum Pocket (oop North) - it has always irritated me that the Germans did do this and straighten the front (ie free up troops for the important business).

Hoth (4th PzA) brought his command in order and with the 2 new mech divisions from the 18th Army, is poised to strike north. 6th Army moved up the line to cover his flank...Notice the railhead...

Well its our turn to slap around in the Rostov area. I don't think a ss has been posted that shows the battle taking place. It doesn't have the results but you can see the units involved...If your wondering those are the air attack results to the Soviets. Then the full battle results kick in...

Manstien's 11th Army sprung into action driving back the attacking forces on the left flank. XIV PzC, still under AGS command cleared the approches to Rostov. The Rum Cav Corps rested as they licked there wounds...

Whats the supply burn like. Can you maintain offensive operations all along the line or will you have to prioritize?

Pyle Driver,
Great AAR. Understand you've been working with the game for sometime now. Wish it was me...just sat around on my tush the last six months (still getting paid too, how sweet was that)!
How hard is it to learn all of the nuances of the game as you are so aptly showing us...it seems like a heckuva lot of detail to learn. Is the manual an easy read or more like government TM's that keep shuttling you around the block?
How much can you automate and still keep rolling.
Seems almost as crazy as being in a real Division TOC!
By the way, on the subject of supply trucks...in the early 1980's a typical mechanized battalion needed 52 additional 10 ton trucks to carry their basic load to war over what they already had! So your situation hasn't changed in 40 years and is probably not any better today!

There is no problem too big that can't be solved with the proper use of high explosives

Well Captian yes I've been testing this game the longest for Joel, 2 years in June... As far as learning it, well it goes to smarts. If your a old boardgamer then the rest should fall in place easy. Al has been doing a great updating the manual and trying to get it easy to understand. I won't lie, it's Gary and Joel at their best, I'm a smart guy, but their these math wizzes...Pavel (helpless) is another guy and so many others, Jim (jaw) may better answer your other questions... Agian please stuff like this put on the Q&A section, we have so many great guys that can answer them for you...Me I'm headed for Moscow, vodka and women, can't wait...
