Another trade bug?

Post by Dave32 »

Hi,

For few hours (only few!) playing DW (1.02) I saw many bugs from other topics (too many ..). Haven't seen in other topics - tech trade - in the trade window both my and the other race can have same technology in the list to trade. I can sell them the tech they have! more of that - it's often that other race asks if I want to buy a tech which I have already! also, too few techs to trade (all other races can't have most of my techs as it shows), please check. also, even with race balance in the red you can give +10000 in trade. (also but already mentioned there double click on money in trade window bug and possibly too cheap colonies)

Another thing annoying me much is that the game is too slow, low fps, all windows appear/draw element by element etc, - while Supreme Commander 2 works fine (may be I have a too slow PC for your game - core2quad2.4 & 8800GTS512Mb - you should change recommended specs or optimize everything) (btw zoom in/zoom out is very user-unfriendly, brings the screen to empty space all the time)

Also please show somewhere the total profit of my race (should add to existing report payments for pirates and profit from trade agreements). By the way, how can I see profit from trade agreements with each race? didn't find it. It's difficult to understand what's happening when by report I see +20000 and my cash falls 20000 at a time (-20000, -40000, ...)

---- Another note - I don't use MediaPlayer and I don't want to download the 11th version etc, so I'll stay without music in DW. It's very strange why all other game developers do their games without such dependance..

It also happens to me quite often that I'm offered to buy a tech that I already have. Especially if the other party is the same alien race as I am.

I also think that techs and colonies are greatly undervalued by the system and the AI parts with them way too easily. Buying a colony for 30-40k is nothing when I have an 500k yearly income. Also colonies and tech are power so the AI should try to protect its own interests more.

I've got no performance issues on i7-920 (stock freq), 6G RAM, W7 x64, ati 4850 512M (stock freq). Drivers updated? Other programs running in the background?

The mouse-wheel zoom is indeed unfriendly, I use the keyboard instead. Backspace to zoom in fully on the selected object, then ins (system) or del (galaxy) to zoom out to the desired lever. Or maybe a bit of wheel-zooming out after the backspace.

I found the total profit (as displayed in the upper-right corner and on the empire summary screen) generally accurate, at least in a sense that I wasn't losing money over a longer period if it was above 0 and I wasn't spending on construction or anything beyond upkeep. However, events such as queued construction projects will still deduct their cost from your account even if you're in red, so those could account for the unexpected cash drops you're experiencing.

Dave, maybe you should try AlacrityPC Tried it at the copmputer of my friend, and it keeps the performance up :D

But it needs some configurating.

playedabit, drivers for 8800GTS were final a year ago, and it works fine with any other game. So it's DW.

I like mouse-wheel zoom much more than keyboard. And it's done and works perfectly in Supreme Commander..

As for total profit .. It seemed to me the number in the upper-right corner is the same as in the Summary Report.. As I said it can be +20000 while in reality cash gets high in the red changing for -10000.. -20000 at a time, I tried to leave it for several years on 4x and it became -500000 in 20 mins, with "cash flow" always in positive, I think the problem was in pay-offs to pirates, though I had 7 trade agreements and good taxes on every colony, but I couldn't see how much I pay or a get of it.

Cheet4h, sure, it'll also tweak-overclock processor few times and add virtual 16Gb of double speed memory, everybody should use it. Still, I think DW with its simple 2D graphics lacks optimization if it can lag on quad core2. Supreme Commander is much more demanding and it works fine, with high fps.

It may be bad optimization, but in the short term Alacrity could help you until the developer work it out.

It seems I misunderstood your problem. I haven't seen this ever happening.
