1.0.3: Giant Traffic Jams

Post by Fishman »

On occasion, giant traffic jams pile up over a planet that has not yet constructed a space port or has lost its spaceport in combat because about 200 ships have all decided to go there and swarm the planet's one docking bay, resulting in no one ever docking. Can this be prevented somehow, so that if a port is overqueued, ships will stop going there until it clears?

An important note. Perhaps a "refuse docking" button somewhere that would clear the queue?

This can be a problem, but what if some of those ships are bringing critical supplies to the station/colony? Will you just refuse them too?

Thought I agree with this issue. I tell my fleets to "refuel at nearest" (nice button by the way, love it), but since they were all doing something together in a massive attack, they all head to the nearest gas mining station that only takes 2 ships docked at a time .

There's no other option, as those ships weren't going to get through anyway. I had a planet with some 260 ships queued for docking. There was no point in trying to deliver anything. Although this is possibly a ghost-ship issue, as even after spawning 800 Ardiluses to run off all the ships, leaving a clear airspace, there were STILL some 20 phantom ships queued for docking. Then the game exploded, so I don't have a save.

There needs to be some kind of failsafe mechanism for what happens if a dock becomes indefinitely blocked, though.

More reset buttons as a rule would seem to be useful, as it seems the machine can very easily get stuck in states which are untenable even if they are functioning.

when i have a lot of ships to refuel i usually first manually redirect them to a MSP or LSP+ before making them auto refuel

saves a whole lot of trouble

Fishman,

Could you upload a save that shows this please, before you unleashed your Ardilus swarm?

Regards,

Can't. Your game ate my save. If I see it again, I'll make a special save of it, though.
