MAP.SOP

Post by AH4Ever »

Is there a way of opening a map created with the editor, before the scenario is completed?

I would like to see how it is progressing.

It is always possible, but the solution depends on what have you changed.

Are you just modding an existing scenario, or starting new one?

I'm working on a new scenario, the fictional one I asked about previously.

So maybe you would like to write an AAR about that?

I'm not sure what you mean, are talking about something along the line of a developer's diary?

If you are it is not going to be pretty, this is a total learning process for me.

I'm sure there will be many more questions coming your way.

Speaking of which - Is there a way to open the map I've started to check it's progress?

If you would turn off all the countries, and put all files with units, cities (or anything that points to hexes X|Y) then you should be able to run the scenario (make at least one country active)

ConsoleOut.txt is a great tool that often tells you what is wrong.

CTD - When I try to run scenario as suggested.
consoleout.txt mentions consts.csv

You must place this file into scenario folder (just copy that from other scenario).

To clarify, all scenario files must exist within the folder, but it is suggested to clear their content.

Still crashing.

The CTD was happening with or without consts.csv present

Now I have copied all content not generated by the editor from Australia '42 and cleared content as suggested.

All csv files must be there, most of them cleared (you can leave comment lines, starting with ";" or "#").
Files that you should not clear:
- consts.csv
- countries.csv
- relations.csv
- unit_names.csv

In addition in Info.ini value for [Save]->ScenarioName should be identical to your scenario folder name. [General_ENG]->Name can be different.

So close.

It is not crashing right away, now the game tries to load but generates a windows error and report.

And closer still.

I had cities_diagram cleared of everything except the comments.

I deleted those and loading progressed a bit further.

I either cannot load any scenario in the editor, nor run new scenarios .
Curiously, I can open, edit and run scenarios of the beta release, but only can run them with the beta game.

At this point you should have scenario loaded

Just to update you, I was never able to get the scenario to load beyond 70%.

After what had to be more than 20 to 25 adjustments followed by attempts to start the scenario
I somehow corrupted both copies of my little project.

I have decided to start over after 1.02 is released.

One question that will need answering is:

How do you create a minimap from a map.sop and is absolutely necessary to do so?

Thanks to both you and Bleck for your assistance.
