Question for devs...or Matrix...

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Question for devs...or Matrix...

Post by JudgeDredd »

In TLD and (iirc) CoI, when you started the game from the desktop shortcut, you got all the Matrix Menu system...one of the options was to play the original game...(I could be wrong for CoI)...but with LSA, that option is not there...any reason for this?

I'm only curious. I never loaded the TLD (The Longest Day) original game...I only ever play the new one, but then I never had the original...I DID have the original and loved it...so I was just hoping that it would've been around.

Not COI, but in WAR.
Both TLD and WAR's game engine is very similar to the orignal title so they can put in the original CC4 and CC5.
I suspect LSA's game engine is very different from original CC2 (as it is actually a modified CC4/5 engine) so the old CC2 game mechanics cannot be played.

Hi Judge,

Unfortunately, not enough of the original game's code was salvageable to include a true "classic" version as we did with some of the other Close Combat remakes, but no effort was spared to make the new release be faithful to and improve the original. We didn't feel ready to tackle this release until we had all the others under our belts as we really wanted to make it as good as we possibly could.

Regards,

- Erik

I guess that makes sense. Re-releases inevitably diverge from the originals until a point is reached where they are no longer compatible.
