Axis forces not attacking

Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem is a highly enhanced new release of Close Combat, using the latest Close Combat engine with many additional improvements. Its design is based on the critically acclaimed Close Combat – A Bridge Too Far, originally developed by Atomic Games, as well as the more recent Close Combat: The Longest Day. This is the most ambitious and most improved of the new Close Combat releases, but along with all the enhancements it retains the same addicting tactical action found in the original titles! Close Combat – Last Stand Arnhem comes with expanded force pools, reserve & static battlegroups, a troop point buying system, ferry and assault crossings, destructible bridges, static forces and much more! Also included in this rebuild are 60+ battles, operations and campaigns including a new enhanced Grand Campaign!

Couple things to keep in mind that could be affecting what people are seeing;

1) Axis BO BG's can not move
2) If a BG is forced to retreat off a map as a penalty during the next strat movement turn the BG can not move

Edit: not saying what you are saying isn't happening, as there was a similar bug in WAR at one time, but the above items could be causing the lack of aggression by the Strat AI that people are seeing instead of a bug

Good point Tejszd. Thought it was understood what was expected out of the German bo. battlegroups but ya can't assume.

I don't think KpG Bruhns and Helle and Knoche are Bo. Battle Groups so should be moving.

Looks like it's best to play as Axis for now.

I posted this in a similar thread but I have a GC ongoing that the Axis AI is very aggressive in trying to take Arnhem back from me. Nearly every turn there's two battlegroups showing up. And there's a fair bit of movement as I keep having to reclaim areas I controlled at the previous movement turn. So it seems to be a sporadic condition.

It shouldnt be too hard to write algorithm/script for the strategic AI of this game. Even I could write code for that. Im sure its just a bug that makes the AI passive in certain conditions. If you have the savegame and game code you could debug out why the AI doesnt move.

I can tell you that for me at least this is absolutely not a sporadic problem. No matter what campaign or op I play or what side I play the AI just will not attack. Last Stand at Arnhem is the op where this is the easiest to see. Please do try it out.

Just wanted to pop in here and say I haven't seen any tactical AI NOT attecking. I find them quite aggressive. I don't know about the Strat AI

That's my concern as well. The TAC AI (in WaR) attacks you regardless of the tactical circumstances. It won't stay in its trenches when defending and the set-up is also laughable sometimes.

From what I have read in this forum, the same is true of this latest release, but if I'm wrong I would be happy to hear it and would even buy the game to test it.

Hi,

Just to confirm I am not talking about the AI in the real time battles I am talking about the AI movement on the Strat Map.

The BG thats would not move were ones that I had not engaged or by the looks of it had not moved from the maps which they entered the Strat Map on.
The ones I had engaged kept attacking until they were out of points so they couldnt buy any reinforcements as you will see in my other post.

Hope its something that can be tinkered with and fixed.

Either way still love the game and was worth the cost of buying it.
The only thing I'm not keen on is the credit/forcepool point thing. There is never enough money to give the AI all the good stuff (or yourself) so you can get a real challenge!! [:)]
Hopefully someone can release a small mod giving unlimited credits [:D] I know...I'm just being greedy!

Anyway thanks again for the great game.

Hi just want to confirm I've gotten the same situation on several operations, and like others say its especially noticable on Arnhem.

I even think I got a CTD in relation to this, seems the AI was very confused and just crashed the game. Unfortunately I have no save of it but next time it happens I will.

Hope you can sort this out guys [&o]

Anyone who has a definite instance of the AI not attacking, turn after turn, please upload a save file in the Tech Support forum for us.

Thanks Erik.

Also I'd add to ALL that we need to know if you're talking strategic AI or tactical AI. We've had varying reports for both. Some saying the Strategic AI is attacking and some saying it's not attacking. Also some saying the tactical AI (AI that controls units on battle maps) being both too aggressive and not aggressive enough. The more specifics you can offer the better. What movements you were attempting, unit or battlegroup involved, anything related. If you don't know what could or couldn't be related please ask.

I got to the beginning of 22nd on the Arnhem Campaign and the axis forces have stopped attacking...

In this specific case it looks like the AI has decided it is too weak to attack. You've got 6 battle groups, all in relatively good shape, around Arnhem. The Germans have 2 battle groups.

That said we are investigating the larger issue and will be making fixes as necessary. Thanks for your feedback.

Axis BO BG's can not move

These are the new static garrison units?

If they are pushed off their "home map" i.e. the place they are supposed to be garrisoning, do they become mobile?

We're looking at it. We've not all been seeing the same results. In an ongoing GC I have the German AI has been attacking just fine. But as I said it's being looked at.

I've been playing 1st Airborne, North of the Rhine as Allies and so far, the Germans have been attacking me on the strat map a lot. In fact, if anything, they've sent a few missions to the bridge that bordered on suicide. I have 15 veteran units in that sector with mortar and mg support units and they are often trying to attack with much smaller BG's made up of recruits. And getting wiped out. [:D]

So I'm not seeing a lack of aggression at least in this scenario. Maybe the problem is scenario specific. Someone who is having these problems should try this scenario and see if they still see the problem. It could help the dev's isolate the issue.

Same here. I've had German battlegroups with one unit in the roster attacking me. Kind of the exact opposite of what everyone else is reporting. I'd say that is equally as bad. Perhaps the extremes of the scale is what's out of whack here? Move the ends toward the middle? Anyway it's on the docket.
