retrofitting Mining and Gas Stations?

Post by SunDevil_MatrixForum »

How do these stations get upgraded? Do they happen automatically because they are owned by private citizens?

Thanks.

They aren't owned by private citizens. They also don't get upgraded.

You have to retire and rebuild. Hopefully this gets changed in a patch.

Currently, the only bases/stations that can be upgraded are those located directly over a colony.

They're built by the STATE.

Maintenance is paid by PRIVATE.

I think you can (or could) upgrade them with a Construction ship, but they may get scrapped in the process so you could lose the Mine.

Last I checked, the approved method for upgrading/replacing a mining station was to:
Open the game editor.
Erase the station.
Alternatively:
Pick a war.  Let the enemy 'erase' the station for you.

Last I checked, Defense bases could only be retired, but I may be mistaken on this (I tend to not use them much).

Hope this gets fixed in future patches. Still annoys me a little when upgrading my empires techs to next tiers..

there are many unfinished parts to this game,

the game was never really polished,

the private sector never upgrades/updates - just doesn't seem real does it.....

IMO the private sector is very annoying in this game, it's very inefficient, and extremely un-practical (building mines for the sake of it) very wasteful, and uses up a lot of CPU resources for what, to barely make the economy tick over.....

mines, mines, mines that's all i ever see, my empire has more than enough mines on a particular resource.......

more mines = more private ships = more defence ships = more resource usage = more mines......

if my empire does not need a mine built for a particular resource than no build a bloody mine.....

with so many private ships running around using up resources for the SAKE of it...... drives me mad,

especially when the game slows down so much, to much chaos on screen, too many UNNEEDED mines being constantly built, which i can not help think it is a design decision by the developer, other wise it would of been corrected by now considering how many patches there have been,

perhaps AI stagnation would occur if they only built what was needed, (AI expansion would become very slow due to supply demand rarely exceeding supply consumption)

in one instance i had 9x the amount of one resource coming in, and yet my AI was still building more mines for that resource, why, why, oh WHY keep building mines that the economy so does NOT NEED,

why does the game seem to want to build everything and EVERYWHERE!!!

I've given up with the chaos, and inefficiencies of the AI,
i for one have lost my patience with the game,
I'll come back for the expansion if there is one to be made...

Perhaps better multi-threading will be done then aswell.....

P.S this game desperately needs modding capabilities, "Balance Mod" anyone..... many other small games coming out can be modded from the get go...... i don't think this game will have modding capability put into it, has there actually been anything put in writing on this forum by the MAIN Developer himself, to say if there will be modding capability for 100% guarantee.....?

Dunno about the private sector...

I've received tech bonuses from them retiring ships before...

Who's to say they arn't upgrading ships when I'm not looking... (granted I haven't looked, but I do occasionally see a merchant vessel docked...)

lol, this made me smile, the mines are not built by the private sector dude, they are built by the state i.e. (you).  So if there are too many mines, its because a state (i.e. you) ship was left needlessly on auto and went and built too many.  Also, private sector do update, at least their ships anyway, perhaps not stations though [:(]

(couldn't help noticing that only one section of what i said in my previous post was picked up, and the rest was ignored as it would seem given the responses that has followed since)

anyway i was speaking in regards to auto AI construction ships, when on auto they build what ever they want.... that's what i was referring to,

if my construction ships does that, then so does the AI players construction ships do it, as it's more and likely they share the same AI algorithms,

yes.... i can do it manual, but the AI players can't,

the construction ships like said before are overkill, they keep building......

obviously i never made myself clear before, but i was referring to the Construction ships building mines,

they keep building for the sake off it,

and i was already aware turning off the auto build as a short term fix, but that wasn't what i was trying to relay,
Auto means within the game concept, controlled by minsters, planet side staff if you will, auto should be build what's needed, otherwise the Auto option should never be used, because when would one know when to turn it off?

my previous post was more about the in-efficiencies as a hole rather then specific parts of the economy side of AI.
the building AI system in general is overkill, mines are being built for no other reason but for the sake of it,

unless of course those who have responded before knows how to turn of the AI players auto build system, like the human player can.... LOL (an enigma)

.......

it's all academic now anyway,

I'm sure many other readers got what i meant.... i hope, maybe... ahh who cares. LOL,

my eyes are now on "Star Ruler" anyway,

One thing about mines in DW that you may not realize...the mines have finite resources. That is they will eventually run out of resource. To see this in action go into the editor, pick a planet and look at its resources. It will look something like this:

Steel 330928 45%

Your resource is steel, the total available on the planet is 330928, and the extraction rate is 45% (if I am reading the numbers correctly).

So in a way, you do need to keep building mines, because your current mines will play out eventually.

This was the case with the original game design but the AI, apparently, had issues with dealing with depleting resources so all resources were made infinite. The resource data is a hangover from these earlier times.

Elliot made a post about this a while ago.

If you're feeling like gaming the system all you have to do is have one resource of each type and park a miner on it with multiple extraction modules on them. So one Lead resource will provide for your entire empire and never run out. Like I said, though, it's gamey.

Finite resources (for the player only) would be interesting. It would make the game a lot more challenging. Probably best to make it an option setting though.

Cheers,
Lancer

Ok, I get your drift now. I havent had reason to do anything but praise the concstructor automation AI. Never have experienced your issue or heard similar complaints.

I must have missed the post about the resources becoming infininte (not hard to do given the flurry of activity we often see around here).

Do agree, finite for the player would definately add a dimension of challege to the game.
