relationships and combat (bug or wad?)

Post by Nibelung44 »

Something I don't quite understand... I have a trade agreement with a civ, not at war with them, but when I approach their mining station (in my own system) they fire at me. How can it be? Has this changed since the last patch? I believed you must be at war to fire on each other?

My only option is to have a mutual defence pact, nothing else... Is it normal that to not fire on another ship, you must have signed a MDP?

I would say it is a bug

This is one of the quirks of DW that has yet been addressed. I think there should some kind of military exclusion zone where it is understood between allies that armed vessels stay out otherwise they are open to be fired upon. It should be a clear boundary, something that i think Dw needs like Civ IV implements very well.

thanks, but so what should I expect? I mean, when 2 civs have a possession in the same system they fight each others, is it the rule?

What race are they? What are your relations with them (I know you have trade, but are they annoyed?).  If they are unreliable and aggressive, they can get nasty, I've seen Haakonish blow up my homeplanets spaceport before and I was not at war with them.  i have had a trade agreement before but in the diplomacy window they say -28 we desire your colonies and resources, if so, expect nastyness.

Nope, it depends on the race as to when they fire at you. Killing ships while not at war lowers your reputation though, but some races don't care about their reputation.

I believe some of this may fit in the 'Commerce Raiding' category.

Normally AI empires do not settle int he same system as other empires. If they do, then it means that one of the factions thinks that it is worth it and usually is TRYING to start a fight. If they dont want a fight they will figure out a trade through diplomacy so that their borders dont overlap, and until this happens there usually wont be too much fighting.

Other empires always build mining station on my systems. There should be an exception and the game should let you attack them like when you attack non-allied military ships placed at your systems without lossing reputation. I've like 7 or 8 mining stations wich belong to 5 different empires...

What make things worse is that if you are friendly with an empire their station has a value of 300k aproximately, but if you are not friendly their value is like 800k-1000k. 300k is indeed to much, not talking about 1000k... If the mines value for friendly or pleased empires were something like 50-80k (150-200 for angry empires) there would be a viable diplomatic option in order to exchange them for money and technology but right know is broken for me.

BTW it's a pain to see whether other empires trespass your systems or not. You can go to diplomacy screen and click on an empire, click on speak with X, click on negotiate a trade proposal, check if there are disputed territories, click on goodbye, repeat

The alterntive it to go to galaxy view and start seeking and clicking at every system you own to check.

Yeah, usually this is a problem if they perceive you as either too weak to defend your territory, or they dont like you (bad rep or just poor relations).

Listen to the man! Heroic reputation can make even your arch enemies kiss some serious ass. Pretty much nobody dears to start a war with heroic empire. They will instantly destroy their reputation when doing so.
