Im not saying completely disallow links..Only at the beginning and then start allowing those who have been here a long time..That should be pretty easy, just time consuming..Then slowly sift through the others who post less but have links. Then you are left with the idiot spammers......They will most likely leave when they cant throw their tiresome links at us...

Sorry if this is a bit obvious, but how do we report the spam? Do we PM Iain or Erik with a link? Have I just answered my own question?

There's a "Report" link in the lower-right corner of every post. Just click on that and fill it out.

I think we should report it, but then we should immediately reply to it with 'Spam reported'. That way the moderators won't get inundated with the same spam reports.

This is (fortunately) unnecessary, as a post can be reported only once anyway. [:)]

Does it matter who we report it to though?

No, since all you have to do is use the post's "Report" function.

However, one surefire way of making the spammers come back is to be stupid enough to reply to their stupid threads, with eloquencies like ... Wonder why that's apparently impossible for people to understand.

The reason spammers spam is to sell something. They continue to do it not because of follow on responses to their posts, but because someone, somewhere in some forum clicks the link and makes a purchase. Spamming is a marketing tactic albeit an annoying one. Good grief.

Question - why does my quote show as "doesn't matter"?

Because it wasn't directed at you per se', only against the idea that computer knowledge is required to know that responding to spam is helping the spammers.

That and the pre-edited version came off sounding a little too much (more?) like a personal attack. However, if you wish I shall attempt to remember that you want me to attack you personally in the future! *grin* (like the post where someone has dragged what appears to be a bad-blood scenario in here? *grin*)

Okay - I was just curious.

I laughed a good, long time when I read this! [:D]

I would hate to lose the ability to post links. [:(]

I agree with the post up above, disallow posting links to anyone who does not have a registered game with Matrix. Then, if they want to spam with links they have to buy a game first [:D]

The Matrix forums are not a free country. You have no rights except those that Matrix choose to give you.

I'm not in favour of disallowing posting of links since that's something that many, if not all, legitimate users here have use for.

However, one surefire way of making the spammers come back is to be stupid enough to reply to their stupid threads, with eloquencies like ... Wonder why that's apparently impossible for people to understand.

You really think spammers watch how many hits their threads gets.....[8|]

Ha, you're usually one of the first people too post on a spam thread, telling others not to post! LOL

Keeping a spam post at the top of a forum does get them what they want.
