Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Redmarkus, I'm guessing that the fellows running the RAF and the USAAF during WW2 had something resembling a sense of proportion and got on by assuming each other's orders would reflect their national peculiarities and didn't make a fuss about it.

None the less it is bloody annoying, having to apply extra consideration to some thing as simple as the date!
I also have it with Panzer Command Kharkov that the game won't run unless I change the date format on my system to U.S., regardless of a patch that supposedly fixed this!

Actually, I believed everyone went off the standard "military time" format. Much less messy that way (and easier to coordinate attacks)

ddHHnnZmmmyy where dd is the date, HH is hours (24 hour clock thank you); nn is minutes; Z is Greenwich Mean Time or the time zone; mmm is the month and yy is the last two digits of the year.

So right now in Greenwich it would be 032007ZDec10 or locally 031507RDec10 here in sunny East Tennessee.

Agreed

I was so used to that format and the shortformat (3dec10 without time for local) that I used it all the time. My friends and neighbors never once asked me what the date meant (although if I had ever used the GMT version they might have) [:)]

Can I ask why my request for a simple, small change get your goat up? You have already admitted trolling and continue to do so by deliberately goading?

Why did my request for an option - as and when they could provide it annoy you so?

My request affected no-one except the developer and only when they could get it out in a patch - and it was a request - not a demand - and still you troll

Strange. I run a UK platform still configured as delivered by Dell and Pz Cmd Kharkov runs just fine with adjustments. Was there a US download as well as an EU download option maybe?

Being an Aussie I totaly see Judge's point of view but in game terms I think it is much more relevant that we address driving on the right side of the road.

The right side is the left side.

Can all players of WitE please do that once they get their games.

Yes, and being from Melbourne, I suppose you want everyone to do hook turns as well?[:D]

I'm not bored so much as kind of fried atm. I went kind of crazy playtesting over the thanksgiving holidays (took off most of the week) and had to crank out an AAR on top of that. And I speed tested about 80 turns of a 41-5 campaign game for last minute debugging.

Mr Flaviusx...Ya'll have done wonderfully well...thanks to you and to all the developers (not to mention Joel, Gary, and a slew of others) we will all be fried at one point or the other, and that time is drawing very near.

And frankly I am waiting for that moment when I'm up for the better part of a four day holiday playing what has to be the most anticipated game (at least for me) in forever. Fried, Brain dead, whatever...it will be "yes dear, I'll come to bed as soon as I complete this turn". Five turns later...."I'll be in soon" Three turns later. "Sh _ _! I have to get to work. Maybe I'll just call and take the day off.

I'm sure it does seem trivial to you. I have no doubt it would seem trivial to alot of others as well.

It's not such a big deal to me that it's a "buy or no buy" decision...but I would like the option. That's all I'm asking. I'm not bothered about it being applied later in a patch which will inevitably be forthcoming...and not even in the first patch.

I find the US date system (when dealing with days below 13th) to be confusing and regularly have to "think" about what the actual date is. That's because I've been brought up using a different system to yourselves. As I said, it's not the language differences - it's not the metric/imperial - they are not something I will have to bother with during the game - but the dates are.

It's a pity it didn't occur to anyone involved in the devlopment. Dare I suggest it is normal programming procedure to use the date system set by ones system.

I apologise to anyone who thinks I've wasted valuable thread space by posting this trivial issue.

You know what, seriously if it didn't bother anyone else, then I wonder why post - and now the thread is de-railed. I asked if it was changeable and if not could it be added in the future. I even said not to hold up release.

Thanks alot guys [8|]

Devs - don't worry about it. I'll get by

(mental note to self - don't post anything if I think it might be incredibly trivial to someone else)

Well I'm completely with you on this Judge. It may be a small and seemingly trivial thing, but I do find the use of the American date layout irritating. Will it stop me buying the game? Hell no - I can't wait. But would it be great to have the option to use "UK time" - yes absolutely - and I thought this was a perfectly reasonable request that seemed to go downhill for no good reason...[&:]

I'll admit, this could be the reason why the panzers stopped short of Moscow:

As we're told campaign turns take 1/2 day each, you had better hope Mrs B is very patient
