Blank Screen on AI turn

Post by Dr. Foo »

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm75/mjm800/WITE/Untitled.jpg

The game is still running I can hear motors and foot movement but the screen is blank. Normally it comes back but once the game crashed. I wouldn't think a blank screen while th eAI is moving is by design.

No fix for this issue?

Last night it was blank for 2-3 minutes before it came back. When switch back and forth from maximize to restore down that seems to fix it sometimes.

RE: Blank Screen on AI turn

Post by Erik Rutins »

We're investigating and trying to duplicate this on one of our systems here. The most we've seen is a brief black screen so far. With that said, this is not a critical game-stopping issue from the reports so far. The game will continue to run and the AI will finish its turn while the screen is black, but we do want to find a solution.

Regards,

I get no units on my screen while the CPU moves. I see the map but all the units from both sides disappear for a few seconds then they come back and I see the tail end of the computer moving, when I would want to watch the whole thing if possible. I just thought that was WAD but maybe not?

I get those brief black screens and sometimes the game goes into "War In The East has stopped responding" state for a few seconds during cpu turns..
I've also seen some enemy ghost units appear behind my lines.

I played the tutorial with no problems. I started a 41' campaign game as the Germans, went thru my turn with no problems, saved the game and hit end turn, units disappeared, then after a few seconds, screen went blank and froze. I got out and restarted from the save, hit end turn and the AI worked fine.
A question, I have a Q6600 quad core, does the game take advantage of that or is there some line in the script? that I have to change ?

Happens to me too. Black screen will the AI moves and when the screen clears I see no AI movement. For a moment I though that it was Fog of War[:D][;)]

I have the same issue. Seems that the AI "routine" blocks the UI from redrawing and the blank screen appears and "not respongin" flickers in the status bar for a few times.

Same thing here yet VERY annoying. I'll play again when I can actually see what is attacking me and how my forces fare.. A game breaker at this point.

I get the blank screen also during combat resolution. The game used so much of the microproessors time (~50% to 55% )that I believe it interfers with any redraw going on. After about 3 to 5 seconds the screen comes back on. Perhaps if the loop that cause the excessive processor time (even when not doing anything to the game) were corrected, the blank screens would cease.

The black screen is only coming up during the AI turn, correct? Are you saying that it's coming up during AI attacks? Are you actually missing some combat action? A patch will be coming out within the next few days in the member's area that reduces the instances and duration of the black screen, but doesn't entirely eliminate it. I didn't think that combat was being missed during the black period. We plan on doing some additional work to further weed out instances of the black screen.

Mine does not. It comes when:
1. the AI is doing MY airfield bombing and
2. During at least 1/3 of ALL combat resolutions.

The combat is not lost. The screen goes black for 3 to 5 seconds after combat or bombing and then I see the map again.

That has helped here it would seem Erik. The scenario that was primarily the problem is The Road To Minsk. I am not getting the black screen anymore but the units do disappear from the map while the game is 'thinking' (which may well be WAD and not my initial complaint).

I downloaded the 1.01 beta and i still get the black screen during the AI turn.
First the AI does some air recon and when those are finished i get the black screen and blinking text that the game is not responing in the title bar.
