How many are playing a GC right now?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

I'm playing fast, probably too fast.  In my early games of RTM, I was doing turns as fast as 30 minutes.  As I got better, I was doing them more slowly as I put a lot more thought into them.

WITE is easy to get into since after all, moving units and attacking aren't difficult at all. But that is a trap since you can just be going through your turns in a flash, blitzing here and there in a beer/bretzel game fashion and not bothering about anything else. But you're then missing out on the HUGE value and deep complexity of this game. And anyway, you wouldn't last long in a GC doing this since your command & control, supply and air unit management would decay fast if not attended correctly...

My turns are extremely slow since I'm reading the manual at the same time and assimilating all the features and functions of this incredible wargame. It is a tedious job but I want to master all features and functions so that when I tackle the big one, I'll be in wargaming paradise [:D]

I am playing the 41 campaign as the Soviets against Axis AI (normal).

Summer 41 saw the axis forces 60 miles from Leningrad, 80 miles from Moscow, and 30 miles from Kiev.

Now it is Turn 30 (Jan 8, 1942)

Winter on the Axis is brutal, and I am slowly pushing them back, 10 miles at a time.

Having a blast, but dread sumer 42...

[X(] This game is demonic. I played from 5:00 PM yesterday until 3:20 AM this morning. I slept two hours, went to work from 6:30-4:30 and promised myself I would spend a few hours with the wife. I heard my name being whispered from my computer twenty minutes after that marriage "quality" time started. I said I need to check for some urgent emails.

THAT WAS 4 HOURS 45 MINUTES AGO. I CAN"T STOP. MY PANZERS ARE SLAMMING INTO AND THROUGH EVERY RUSSIAN DEFENSE. MY INFANTRY ARE FOLLOWING UP KICKING RED BUTT.

And the intricacies of the game continue to be learned every few minutes.[X(]

Worry he should. I actually get the shakes when I take a bathroom break. And that's after holding it in until I am in pain with tears leaking from my eyes. Catheter on the way. [>:][8|][:D]

What a great game.

After trying the Road to Minsk scenario a couple of times, I couldn't restrain myself anymore, and kicked off a 1941-1945 grand campaign as the Germans against the AI.

Reading up on the details I have missed as I go along. Seem to be doing OK so far - AGC bagged and eliminated a pocket west of Minsk and have gained bridgeheads across the Dnepr. AGS struck east and then south, and have just trapped a huge pile of Soviet units as the Hungarians and Rumanians activated...

Are we sure the AI doesn't LEARN from game to game? Hmmmmm...

I've often wondered about that too. I've played games where I blew the Axis AI to pieces as the Soviets and the other way around, but when I would switch sides, the AI seemed to have learned some lessons from how I played, sometimes even mimicking moves (which was both scary and a good thing as it became more competent).
