Commence raids against neighbour?

Post by Bateman1982 »

Hello all,
my empire AI keeps stating its worried about one of my rivals and that it wants to start some preemptive raids against them. Asks me to pick yes or no.

1. Does clicking yes actually despatch some of my ships to raid targets, or does it just give them clearance to fire on any ships they happen to encounter?

2. Is there any way to stop the raiding if I change my mind?

I said yes when asked, but it keeps asking me the same thing again anyway, so just wanted a bit more detail on what the AI is actually doing with this instruction.

1. Yes they will start attacking freighters and mining stations.

2. Usually this leads to an all out war, but they will usually send a diplomacy 'Stop Attacking Us!' warning that you respond to and should stop it. If all else fails, put all ships and fleets on manual control for a breif period and set war and attacks to manual control and that will stop it. You can return to automated ships and suggest on policies within a minute.

Agreeing to the advisor suggestion to launch preemptive raids will only trigger a single raid from your ships. It is not ongoing. Your military ships will have clearance to attack targets of that empire at the earliest encounter, but once the first attack is underway, no further raids will be conducted.

This is a great way to entice an intended target to war dec you, so you don't take the diplomatic hit.=)

is that once per ship - or just the first time any ship attacks?

Lordxorn, don't forget that attacking ships without declaring war on them (and when not responding to an attack) will lower your rep. Granted, if they declare war on you as a result of that strike the rep hit will probably not be as big as the one you get from declaring war.
