Bombers

Post by Ezikel »

Ok, im in a WW2 campaign 41/42 and im mainly comeing up against Italy. I know they use lots of infantry compared to me so ive been picking 2x'6 Med Bombers' and Fighters. The problem is, whenever i get into battle i can never use the bombers, but i 'can' use my fighters. Anyone know why?

Usable only on turn Zero, I'm afraid. They come in with the preattack artillery so you plot them during deployment.

must be pre-plotted

The problem with bombers is that their mission must be pre-plotted during deployment, before the first turn. However, it is possible to plot them to arrive in any turn other than turn-0 initial bombardment, if that's what you want. Press the "t" key in the bombardment screen which allows you to specify which turn you want the bombers to appear and make their attack.

The tough thing about using bombers (as opposed to fighters) is that you kinda have to really guess where the enemy is concentrated, or where a large group of enemy will be moving to if you plan to attack during a later turn (e.g. turn 6). But I used it a couple times and the effect is quite devestating when you score a lucky run against a big chunk of enemy force :)

Could you move the pre-plot later during the game (as for normal artillery), if you know the bombers will only arrive at turn 10 for example ?

Nope, they're set up and plotted just like a para/glider drop.

IMHO - spend your points on Off-board Arty. You'll be able to use turn to turn, and put the barrage where you need as the battle ebbs and flows. Plus you get the option to lay smoke, which can be invaluable.
