Moving AB and Corp HQs

Post by G Felzien »

Why bother? As the Soviet on turn one and all aircraft are moved to the national reserve, why would I worry about moving them? They get displaced automatically upon contact with the enemy so why make the effort? Corp HQs are disbanding soon and they all (except 1) have crappy leaders so why not let them displace and hopefully the leaders will get KIA.

What practical reason is there not to leave them to be over run?
Will being displaced use trucks from the truck pool?
Or is this just a gamey tactic?

the units suffer retreat attrition, and as they are always in REFIT they will drain replacements from your production line.

The enemy will capture supplies and fuel.

Its generally VERY BAD for any unit to be forced to displace.

for me each airbase displaced by axis will cost you losses
this will drain your pool of manpower
don't really see this necessity and prefer to move them

Grabbing the Fuel from airbases is a pretty big deal. I try very hard to have panzer corps hit airbases so as to gain those damaged fuel dumps for the corp HQ. On a good turn its like 2-3 free fuel airdrops.

In addition each one of those HQ has trucks indigenous to it. You would be better off letting it disband and reclaiming the trucks than letting your opponent overrun. The poor leaders will return to your pool, and I suppose are then eligible to be picked by the AI to replace a killed leader, but that isn't much of an issue I should think.

Part of the answer to this question is... Why would you not move them? Perhaps I am missing something but other than the hassle of actually doing the selection and movement why wouldn't you move them?

If the ToE of the aforementioned is set to zero, that ought to prevent replacements but would it prevent fuel and supply delivery?

My thoughts behind not moving them was simply to save on the truck pool. Maybe this does not make a difference? I agree there are supplies to be captured. I suppose this is an intellectual excerise. Its possible such a discussion could develop alternate strategies. For example, placing many corp HQ units in woods presenting them as a force concentration to enemy recon. If they get overrun... they did their job by redirecting the opponents plans.

Just thinking out loud.

Allowing airbases to get 'bumped' also means any damaged planes are destroyed.
