RE: Units will not Move

Post by morganbj »

I've seen some very strange movement behavior. I currently have several units that won't move from one hex to another and there's no enemy within six or seven hexes. The unit display says the're moving when I set the move, but then the next turn, it's back to "not moving" status again. This for perhaps 10 turns or so. I think there's a very subtle movement bug. I think something gets tripped with the hexside control process and then is not reset when enemy units leave (or are destroyed).
Occasionally, and randomly, problems and solutions collide. The probability of these collisions is inversely related to the number of committees working on the solutions. -- Me.

Two points:

In your second shat you still have the Wenchow hex "selected" so we cannot see who controls its hexsides.

Also, who is trying to move: the Chinese or Japanese?

Roy, I am assuming that you want to move the units that are in Wenchow. If so, please post a screen shot without having Wenchow selected. Select some other hex please. With Wenchow selected the hex sides are all white and I cannot see the owership.

Roy, as you can see the five hex sides in the Wenchow hex that are able to be traversed by ground units are all red. You can not move units from Wenchow via ground movement at all now. You could move a unit from the hex to the Northwest into Wenchow and then move all of them back to the Northwest. The movement of a unit from the Northwest into the Wenchow hex will establish your control over that hex side.

For future reference, Roy, just select some hex out to sea or way out of the picture before you take your screen shot! [;)]

This picture is good enough to answer the question, though. Notice that - within Wenchow - all of the hex sides are owned by the Japanese (except for the side bordering a sea hex which nobody can own). The Chinese troops in Wenchow are trapped until a friendly unit (something with AS, not an HQ for example) can cross into Wenchow thereby taking ownership of the hex side it crosses, or they can defeat the Japanese forces in the hex.

Think of it like Stalingrad. For the Chinese troops in Wenchow to fight their way out they have to make the Japanese troops in Wenchow retreat. For forces outside to relieve them they have to gain ownership of a hex side. It's not a perfect system but it truly is better than existed in WITP (non-AE).
