Peninsula Campaign

Post by 8th OVI »

Hey everyone!

I bought this game yesterday, despite reading that the Peninsula Campaign wasn't included, and I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any mods or scenario add-ons available that included any of the Peninsula Campaign battles?

I moved to Richmond, VA a few months ago and I have learned about the Peninsula Campaign (after knowing really nothing about it) and have visited the battlefields in person. I'd love to have a crack at these battles myself.

8th OVI,
The battles in "Forge of Freedom" are all randomized and thus not based on historical battles.

The good news is that our new series, "Brother against Brother," will have historical battles, and we plan to cover most of the Peninsula Campaign's battles. Our first release, which is now in advanced testing, includes Williamsburg, and either towards the end of this year or early next year (in time for the 150th anniversary) we'll have a "Lee Takes Command" release which will definitely have Gaines' Mill, Frayser's Farm and Malvern Hill, and probably Mechanicsville, as well as 2nd Manassas. So, you'll need to wait a bit longer for those battles, but they're in the works! (I just finished the revised OOB for the Williamsburg standard scenario a few days ago, in fact.)

I'm curious, did you have a relative in the 8th Ohio?

Gil- I did not have a relative in it that I know of, although admittedly, I currently know very little about my family's history older than my grandparents generation.  I grew up in a town which was home to a Medal Of Honor winner from the 8th.  Always enjoyed the story of his MoH in which he capture enemy flags at Gettysburg, so it has always been something I've used as a username in forums where the Civil War is a topic.

Yogi - I had seen that game, but for $50 I was a little hesitant to pick it up.  I might have to at some point though.

I had figured everything in this game was randomized but was hopeful that the mod community that seems to be so strong in ACW games would have put something together.  Regardless, the game is good anyway!

Thanks for the quick responses guys.

Take a look at NWS if you want to purchase it. It will be $29.99

No, FOF can't really be modded in that way -- one can mod scenarios in terms of the sizes of armies and where they're found, and thus can even have two enemy forces start in the same province and begin with a battle, but there is no code for storing maps, let alone placing units on those maps. BAB, of course, will have that: historical battlefields, historical units, multiple scenarios, and the option to create more through modding. And I've offered to work with modders who want to create battles that aren't planned for a future BAB release.
