Japanese resource collection

Post by Phanatikk »

This has probably been covered several times already, but the subtleties of the search feature eludes me.
.
The game starts with lots of resources/oil @ Hakodate and Port Arthur. Is it better for Japan to ship these out to Japan in massive convoys early, or dole them out over time for some obscure logistics/industrial reason? If the latter, what amount per month (to start) is best?

For AFBs, disregard this message entirely. There is nothing of interest in either Hakodate or Port Arthur. Just stay in your comfortable south seas ports well-stocked with hula girls...

Good thread to start reading:

I do not quite agree with all of mike's plan, but it does give a good overview

Anything that gets moved by ship is best moved as soon as possible. As time goes on first the Allied torpedoes get fixed, then the numbers of subs they have is huge.  Also if you start moving early, the ports that amass a lot of res per turn will not get so full that it is hard to get them all to the HI without using a lot of shipping; shipping that will probably be needed further from home.
Sometimes things said in Nitwit sound very different in English.

Agreed.

Closer to the home islands or your HI-producing centers (if not in the home islands) is better than further away. I'd rather have 1,000,000 oil delivered to the home islands, of course. Failing that, 1,000,000 oil in Hong Kong or Canton will be easier to eventually get back home than 1,000,000 oil in Magwe or Balikpapan once these areas come under pressure.

Some players just ensure that any convoy doesn't return home empty handed. If it dropped off supplies or troops, it returns with resources for example. Others prefer to set up regular CS or human-controlled convoys to always keep the resources, oil or fuel present at the remote bases to a comparative minimum-dumping off a little at a time for the duration of the war.

Port Arthur have a refinery, so you need some oil there. Also eventually you probably have to ship fuel to Manchuria, if you want to run Heavy Industry there.

Keep in mind that oil centers stop producing when the oil stock reaches 1000x oil center size. Propably not problem in Hokkaido, but some small oil centers might stop producing if you don't ship the fuel out of there.
