Once you install Drop Box and set PCO to accept that location for PBEM files setting up a scenario takes about 3 minutes before you are watching the scenario upload to put in your setup.

Drop Box....

No, I don't think it comes with PCO. But it's free and all you have to do is download it. You can make a folder just for PBEM games and you invite your opponent to share the folder with you. Once you are connected you have your own private folder that PCO posts the files into. It's really easy. I thought J2D had a thread on it already somewhere. I'm sure he'll be along to explain more about it in a bit.

The manual has a section that explains DropBox. Panzer Command: Ostfront is optimized for PBEM play with a live sync system like DropBox. Playing PBEM with DropBox is almost like playing on a LAN, the turns are transmitted immediately and with no additional work required from the player. You just finish your turn and it's automatically sent to your opponent as long as you are both using DropBox. You can minimize the game and you'll get a system tray notification when a new turn comes in from your opponent.

By this weekend you will all be playing PCO. I would recommend if you don't have Drop Box you should get it. See Post 6 above.

To play against another player you will need to give them permission to go to your DB folder.

I would set up some PBEM contests now while you wait and be ready when you get PCO.

Falco, I owe you one when you're ready.

Fredrocker I'm also pretty sure I owe a game as well.

If you two are interested answer up and we'll get Drop Box setup and ready for some PBEM.

Stridor, I owe you a game as well. I know you have DB already and we are already synched so if you'd like we can play whenever you're ready.

The gauntlet is thrown down to the three of you.

Good Hunting.

Since I have to make a short test of PCO in the next issue of PC4War French magazine, I would participate to a PBEM. Dropbox already installed. I think all I have to do is to give you, if you accept, my email address. How do I do this ?

Moet I will tell you if you send me poutine.

You get MR's email address then go to Dropbox and follow the instructions for sending an invitation to your box. Once he receives the invitation and accepts it, you then decide on screen names, battle and sides, then off you go.

I thought that MR would keep all the contest's games in one of his Dropbox folder. But sure I can create my own Dropbox folder for an individual PBEM game with him. What do you think MR ?

That works too. PM to MR with your email address.

You would want a DB folder that you are playing in. As new files are added to the folder DB gives you a notification.

If I set up a folder for all the PBM games there will be a constant notification of new game files to that folder. Most of those wouldn't involve your game. Also the person setting up the folder would have the space requirements for the folder being tasked against his own DB account.

We/I could do that but I personally wouldn't use it. I'd want a folder shared only with those I've got games going with. Once PCO is released there will be hundreds of PBEM games going on. There would be files going in and out of that folder constantly and it would be next to impossible to tell which of those are yours.

We can do this however you like though.

Anyone never having used Drop Box before may think this sounds way too complicated. It's not. You install Drop Box. Create a folder and send your opponent an email invitation to share that folder. You both point PCO towards that folder for your PBEM games and you're all set to do PBEM using DB.

Good Hunting.

I didn't think about all those implications. Certainly not a thing to do.

True. Very easy to install.

And Dropbox is very useful, I use it as backup server and to work on my mods/models both on PC and laptop without the need to copy files between the two machines. You can also condivide a folder with a friend to exchange files or share files with all using the public folder.

I got your invitation but had something come up tonight. Maybe Rick or J2D could play against you tonight.

Thanks. I'll glady play a game with rick (thanks for the invitation rick), but I'm not on a hurry. I have two weeks to write the test, and I'm a very slow player, taking hours to analyze the terrain befor playing turn 1. [&:] So I invite you on the demo scenario and will see if I get as confortable with PCO than with CM. [:)]

Then I'll be ready to play either later tonight or tomorrow.

Let me when a good time for you to play is.

My email nickname is mr. You can either set up the game or I will. If I do let me know which side you prefer.

Do you want me to keep Screen Shots and take notes on the battle as well? I can do that. To take a screen shot you simply click F8 and PCO will create a folder in the PCO directory and put your screen shots in it. They will be bmp files.

Good Hunting.
