Is there a timeline for a new release of WIR (3.3) ?

Post by Magnno44 »

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know if there is a release date for the new vesion of WIR 3.3?

Given that there are some things that make the germans shatter during first blizzard turn 1941 if one do not play historically, I think I heard something about a new release.

Anyone knows?

It is close, I think. We are testing the blizzard, and some equipment tweaks now. Don't know when Arnaud will be ready though.

WIR 3.3

....would be nice if the combat reports screen could identify
attacker general / defender general
GOOD vs POOR combat contribution.
in addition to Odds of combat.

An indication of whether bombers survived to participate in the attack could be identified by a * ?

Make it our christmas present! ;)
Now, I don't wish to sound greedy, but I don't suppose you could reveal a bit as to what's to be new/improved in WiR 3.3?

I'm about to start new PBEM game so I suppose it's prudent to ask will the .sav files from V3.2 work properly in V3.3?
I'm *very* anxsious to se new game, especially 'cause I had bad experience with shaters in first winter turn ( in another game 7 fully entrenched and supplied corps shatered to weak Soviet attacks !)... and I'll play German side in my new game :D .
Great work guys... with WiR and PacWar who needs any other game :D ...

Arnaud wrote today, and wants to get the game out for XMas also. Save games from the latest current will switch over just fine. Regarding features/changes, I am not sure, but here goes some of them:

Cost allowed higher than 9 for equipment.
Fix for no divisional readiness loss from combat.
Some new equipment ratings/tweaks.
Reworked blizzard formula.
Separate control settings for human/AI for equipment upgrades and factories (one can be human, the other AI).
Eliminate light/medium/heavy armor types for upgrades-any type is allowed.
No movement when readiness < 5%.

Maybe others, but these are the big ones I think.

WOW what a x-mas gift! Way to go guys!!!

PS. I just bought myself the latest in strategy WW2 gaming (as an x-mas gift to myself), "Hearts of Iron" and I must say Im very dissapointed to say the least. The idea is good but the ballance between nitty gritty details and grand strategy is very bad) At the same time that you need to kick Himmler from his duties you have to consider if you want to develop prototypes for an amphibious tank or not and in the same motion have to direct (in real time) airstrikes coordinated with land-wearfare attacks. I cant say more than this long-wanted game sucks! DS.

WIR is still the best grand strategy simulation on the market...and is that not the strangest thing?? Why have no one managed to come up with something that matches it? Mystery to me...

I also have "Hearts of Iron" I enjoyed trying to make some mods for it to add a touch of realism, but then my mods which took many hours to make did not work properly. Guess will have to wait for Gary Girgsby and company at 2by3 to finaly make a "real" World War 2 simulation that covers the whole war.

If such a project is done, it would be a wargaming work of art. Would you have rushed Michael Angelo to finish the Sistine Chapel? Some things in this world are worth waiting for. ;)

Does it mean that the 500s "Heavy" Tank Battalions can be equipped with PZ IIIm, for instance?. Or the Russians Heavy Tank Rgts with T-70s?. Not a very historic flavour if we are not allowed to change the names also. I think a new house rule is going to emerge among those gamers who want to keep the game as real as possible in order to equip the battalions with the "right" tanks.

You will be able to play it either way, so if it isn't a house rule and you concentrate production on cheaper tanks, they can fill these units, along with the Ferdinand/Elephant units, etc. The only restriction is that type is still limited to the same overall type, so tanks must replace tanks, etc (except for the AI changes if left in their hands).

Happy New Year!

Actually I posted the latest scenario files to Arnaud the Friday before Christmas and got a thanks from Arnaud, but nothing since. It could be he sent them to Matrix and they haven't added the update yet (they don't even have a valid link to the last version as someone else noted) and hasn't added it to his site, but probably got too wrapped up in the holidays to finish things up. Haven't heard, so it could be awhile.
