Suggestion: View results before ending Assault resolution phase

Combat Command is Boku Strategy Games World War II operational game. strategy games played warfare on a hex playing field with turn-based game play utilizing company-sized units. Game design aspects include turn phases, combat resolution, unit design, scenarios and artificial intelligence.

Suggestion: View results before ending Assault resolution phase

When we play the Assault Execution Phase we get to see the results of each Assault one at a time.

And we can go back and review the result of each and every Assault.

Except for the last Assault. When the last Assault is complete the game fast forwards to check initiative, supply status of every unit and the command status of every unit.

Only then can I review the result of that last Assault of the turn. But I have to sort through all the other messages!

I suggest that when all Assaults have been resolved, a button appears named “Finished the Assault resolution Phase”.

The we can review that last Assault as well as all the other Assaults of the turn before ending the turn.

Absolutely yes.

What would really be nice is if there could be a report generation function that would list all assaults for that turn with a push of the button. Hey gotta dream right?

I've been thinking/looking about what can be done with this at the moment. Unfortunately not a lot!

It's possible to pull the text from the combat info box using CopyText and there are some little gems of data in there. However there is a lot of text that is only useful if you see it at the moment the event is executed ... and the majority of the time that does not happen. The information is not useful later as it's got no tags to identify it.

To improve the player feedback, so it comes up with something useful would be easy. For example, just needs to be text output to the combat info box and/or a log text file. The only change would be simple code lines logging events; with meaningful text to identify what is happening and result. There'd be no impact of code logic. I have a dream [;)]

What about a button that would be available during the entire turn that would generate a report for all messages at any particular phase of a turn? Lets say you finish your movement phase, so push a button and a report is made that lists all enemy opportunity fire events and any corresponding losses/disruptions. Then maybe after the assault phase push the button and another report is made that lists everything that happened up to that point in that turn. This would require Joe98s button, "Finished the Assault Resolution Phase" to make this work because you don't want the game to auto proceed to the next steps after the last assault creating a bunch of extra messages.

In some ways the most useful change would be to improve the readability of the information given - so you knew who (Attacker) was doing what (Direct Fire, Assault etc) to who (Defender) and what the result was (QC, QC+10 etc).
