Random Campaign Game Keeps Falling Over

Post by Beany »

Hi Guys,

I have been playing the 1st Panzer Long Campaign Random and have played 14 battles. At present I am in reaction turn 20. However, I am unable to get beyond this turn as when I click on the button to continue the game falls over and takes me back to the desktop. I'm not sure how to load the saved game to this thread so you could have a look and see if you can spot the problem. Any thoughts?

Mark C.

Look in your log.

You could post the last part of that current log entry here.

It sounds like this might be a data problem. As MR said, the log may contain a hint of what's ccausing the problem.

To upload the saved game, you can find the .sav file in the Save directory. You will also need to upload the scenario file itself. It can be found in the .\Data\Scenarios folder. It will have a file name in the format: ®1309490627762.xml . You will have a lot of files with that format. you will need to find the correct one. If you sort the folder by date, you can estimate where the file is then confirm it by opening it with a browser. Check the battle date and make sure it is the same as your saved file. you might have to rename the scenario file before zipping it up.

You can zip the .sav and the scenario file together and upload to forum by clicking the "click here to upload" button just below the message composition window.

Thanks

Thanks mark, i'll take a look at files. Can you tell me if you have the Beta patch installed?

Yes there does appear to be a number of warning messages in the log, though i'm not sure those are the critical issue here.

Thanks

Hi Rick,

When the problem first appeared I did not have the Beta patch installed. I did then install it in the hope that it would rectify the situation but it did not.

Mark,

Do you have a saved game from the previous battle by any chance? The log msgs I get imply a problem with end game screen, but I'm not sure the battle should be ending yet. I also see that there is a Stuka reinforcement that is supposed to arrive on Turn 20. Also, if you could zip up all of the Random Battle files for that campaign, along with the Campaign file itself that might help.

The Campaign file will be in the Data\Campaign directory and will have a name similar to: ®1st Panzer Div ......xml

And also, if you could let me know if you have the Beta patch installed. EDIT: Sorry I didnt see your post above when I posted.

I saw some error msg. in the log you posted that may have been triggered by the prior game.

Thanks!
Rick

I haven't yet. I played through the end of the previous game (#13), and did not get any error msg. in the log file. I"ll go on to #14. Unfortunately, I have the Beta patch installed on mine already (actually I'm testing an updated Beta patch), so I'm not sure how well it will finish up.

In any case I'll try to play through the 14th battle eitehr tonight or tommorrow.

I played through to turn 24 and when the game reached T24 (end of reaction phase), I also got a CTD. So I'm fairly sure it is crashing when it goes to the end game cycle. This leads me to think the save game file has gotten corrupted. I'm not sure what might have caused it.

I'm going to try a couple of more things. But I cant revert back to prepatch for a while as i'm also testing some other features for the patch.

Sorry I wasn't more help. If I do find anything I'll post here and let you know.

Thanks

Mark,

I haven't been able to figure out why the campaign saved game got corrupted. I'm going to save the files and I'll try to get back to it after we finalize the patch.

I know it must be frustrating to play 13 battles and have it CTD.

Sorry I wasn't more help

Thanks

Does this mean that many, or possibly all, PCO players will experience a CTD near the end of this campaign? I was going to buy PCO today but I trashed the purchase idea when I came across this thread. I'm obviously concerned that this BUG could be a game killer for me . I certainly don't want to have Chorlto's aggravating experience. [:(]

No, I others have played through the campaigns. If you play with the same user made mods and the same version through the campaign, it should be safe. That isn't to say a file can't get corrupted, a power outage in middle of save, a bad disk sector.

Rick,

Thanks for looking into the problem. Frustrating not to have a solution yet but it hasn't stopped me playing the game.

Sevenpointsix2, whilst I have had a problem with one part of the game don't let it put you of purchasing the game. I love PCO and have been playing it more than CMBN. It really is a great game and I really think that it has most of the features of WEGO strategy games right.

Thanks Rick and Chorlto. Glad to hear it's not a major problem after all. Going ahead with my PCO purchase. [:D]
