Sure enough, the newcomers turn nasty. That didn't take long.

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
Hi Grotius,
Good to see that you survived! Good luck over the next few years. [;)]
To build carriers, you need to research the star fighter tech that unlocks the Carrier ship class and also have a large enough construction size (increased through research in construction tech).
Yes, this was one of the reports that helped us determine that the AI was underestimating necessary troop strength for invasions of very highly developed worlds (like homeworlds).
Regards,
- Erik

In the meantime, some new guys come a-calling. I confess I've never seen much of the storyline in any of the three versions of the game, as up to now I've never gotten this far into a game. So no spoilers, please.

You are so dead... [:D]
Great AAR BTW. Good job!

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
Thanks, Erik. Maybe after I install the new patch I'll load up one of my earlier saves and see if I survive. Or maybe not. I sorta like the story this game has told up to now.To build carriers, you need to research the star fighter tech that unlocks the Carrier ship class and also have a large enough construction size (increased through research in construction tech).

We'll see! I should be back at it tomorrow.DUMM DUUMM DUUUUMM

Woah. If the "Erutkah Refugees" are who I think they are (although I'm really hoping I'm wrong!), then I suspect things are about to get....interesting.

Nice AAR. Even little empires put out a nice story.
Is there a time limit to this game?

Wow, those guys could not possibly have showed up at a more interesting time. I will be following this closely! I consider myself decent (although not nearly as good as some of the folks on these boards) at the warfare in this game, but these guys... oy. No spoilers!
RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
Not as far as I know. I don't recall any option to impose one.Is there a time limit to this game?
Glad you guys are enjoying the AAR! I've played on, and I'll have lots of time tomorrow to play and edit screenshots, so more reports are forthcoming. It's been very interesting...

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
Ah and right when you manage to reestablish your space fleet the Erutkah declare war. You are playing one of the most dramatical and surprising games I've seen [:)]
BTW You can set a time limit at the start. At the screen where you set up victory conditions there is an "End game after XX years" option.

Oh, that's good to know!At the screen where you set up victory conditions there is an "End game after XX years" option.
All right, time to learn about these Erutkah Refugees. For meek little refugees, they've sure done a good job of colonizing choice worlds on the northern Outer Rim. They have the smallish blobs in purple, at the very top of the screen. And also a couple on the west edge of the galaxy.

Yes! He's back! Been looking forward to this. I really, really want you to succeed so that I can pick up some pointers...
RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
And militarily, they're already at parity with me. Hmmm. Worrisome, but not life-threatening, I wouldn't think. For the short term, I focus on building up my defenses. My longer term plan still involves fried paella, but I need to make sure these Erutkah aren't a threat first.

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
I establish my third colony, far to the south, almost near the southern rim. I set it to work making a spaceport, and I send a detachment of cruisers to defend it from light raids. It's too far away to station an entire fleet there.

Well, I'm pretty much a newb! But there's lots of interesting stuff ahead...I really, really want you to succeed so that I can pick up some pointers...
... as well as some spoilers. I'll warn the reader when we get to "story" stuff.

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
I haven't talked much about my research progress, mostly because I had no progress at all for the first three decades of my existence. But now I've got scientists working round the clock! Even so, I'm way behind. Here's a look at one of my research trees.

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
I wouldn't be as technologically advanced as I am were it not for my trading partners. Here we see me shopping from my cousins' VERY long list of available techs. Did I mention that I'm behind in tech? Heh.

RE: Quick and nasty: a Securan story
Speaking of research, tech may be key to the UQE's effort to win this game. Their racial victory conditions emphasize tech -- and peace.
I actually might want to try playing the UQE at some point. Their victory conditions appeal to me. But I might want to play a warmonger first.

OK, here comes some story stuff. If you don't want spoilers, skip the next SEVEN posts, including this one.
(Incidentally, is there a "spoiler" button in these forums? A way to make text/images appear only if you click a button?)
