Global AT2 Championship

Post by jagular »

There are quite a few players playing multiplayer games so I figured: why not hold a little championship.

My proposal, which of course is still under discussion:

Depending on how many persons want to join I was thinking of making buckets of 3 or 4 persons. In each bucket each player will play the others simultaneous in a 2x2 match AND a multiplayer-game with all members of that bucket, so you would have 3 or 4 games running at the same time.
The first 2 of each bucket would go to the next round, where new buckets will be formed. and this goes on until there is a winner.

Mapsize: Large
World Type: Normal World
Options: Map Loop / Shroud
Climate: Full Range

Each round will last a maximum of 2 months. If at that moment there are still games undecided the player with the most VP points is the winner. If all games finish earlier, the next round will start.

Points awarded:
Winning a game: 25 points + Victory Points
Losing or ending 2nd in a 2x2 game: 10 Points + Victory Points
Ending 3rd in a game: 5 Points + Victory points

If a player stops playing, his opponents will receive 25 points for the victory and the victory-points they have at the moment the player dissapeared.

We can make a lot of extra rules, but I would like to keep it as simple as possible.

Reply to this post if you're interested. As mentioned: Nothing is set in stone yet, so if you have feedback or an idea to mke this work better, let us know.

Have fun,

Im in....I think its a great idea whatever the format...

Would also like to see a ladder in place for everyday competition but pehpas thats for another day.

I think initiatives like this will promote slaes for the game and add new players...

Could map size be x-large? or vote, or agreement between opponents, or something? Smaller maps require a better knowledge of game mechanics, while larger maps require better knowledge of war making. Therefore smaller maps favor players more experienced in the game, while larger maps diminish that advantage.
Also how do you determine who creates, and hence who goes first?
Even if the creator of the game is honest, it flashes a snapshot of the map, "shroud on" will let creator peak, this might not be fair. I raise these questions only for clarity, I will play anyway.
Man I can't freakin wait!

If all players in the bucket agree to a certain map-size that should be ok.
A dice-roller can be used to determine who starts and creates the map. If you select shroud in the setup and don't select shroud peak in the 2nd screen neither player will see the map. If you do peak, the other player will be notified of this.

Using shroud lacks the realistism that otherwise pemeats this game. When nations go to war in the industrial era, they almost certainly know what the world map looks like. It is unrealistic to assume otherwise. As I stated in my first reply, I will play any way at all, but my vote will be against shroud for the above mentioned reason.

Thats right. But this should be a tournament/ championship. Taking realistic situations into account would eb necessary in case of playing any scenario, but not a random game. So I think it is ok to start without any knowledge of the map.

There are two issues that we had better to discuss:

One is the size. Large or above won't be available all the time, especially when two players are horse to horse. When a game last 2-3 months, how can the championship goes on? I played 1v1 small map before, it seemed quite difficult to finish it in 15turns (only if overmatch), when one plays one turn per day, one month goes and other members in the championship who finish it earlier must wait for them so long. That is what we should think about.

The other is the map.In different scenario the data of each unit is different. So random game or a firmed scenario should be considered.

If you need someone to make maps that isn't playing I can help out with that. I'll set them up so there is no possibility of any player seeing the map before hand. All I need the agreed upon parameters.

P.S. I don't ever recall seeing the map briefly flash into view when using the shroud option, unless the shroud peak option is chosen. If that is the case, then I believe everyone would get the same brief look.
