Why cant we just be proud about Mozart without nitpicking who "owns" him ?
The only thing I could be proud of is to play some of his masterpieces in an equally masterfull way (which I can't). But the fact that he's German isn't my achievement.
Dont twist my words hun [:-]

All this noise about Mozart, noone is talking about poor lonesome Vivaldi.

Vivaldi is awesome. As well as Chopin or my favorite: Verdi!

Sitting @ work in my office, and getting strange looks from colleagues passing by, because the Berliner Symphoniker are blasting
from my room... [8D]

There's even a theory now that Mozart was scuttled. [:D]

Does that make a difference?

"It will always be one of the great mysteries how the Austrians managed to achieve that Hitler is seen as a German and Mozart as an Austrian"

I know this quote with Hitler and Beethoven who, coming from Bonn, was a "real" German. Honestly I personally never would consider Mozart to be a German[;)]

Best regards

Hi guys. I am working on a new marketing project, that will play with US stereotypes about Germans ...

According to a WW II US documentary, a "love" of regimentation, following orders to the letter, Wagner's large women with horned hats, and then there's John Banner aka "Sgt. Shultz," the Teutonic anti-hero.

@Historiker: "Bin zwar Deutscher, gebe aber mal trotzdem meinen Senf dazu." ...

Found this topic quite interesting and besides those stereotypes already mentioned, I found another rather funny/ironic clip on Youtube.

Tom Hanks talks on German Autobahn
One stereotype after another, containing many 'errors' (false assumptions). Could be seen as the modern version of stereotypes on Germany/Germans (besides those resulting from history).

There are also some other interesting clips on other topics already mentioned:
'Have no humor' stereotype -> I learned that Michael Mittermayer made a trip to the U.S. and Canada, which is also quite interesting (search Mittermayer and Montreal/New York on Youtube).

The Nazi topic also spawned a relative popular internet meme, one incarnation also posted here by someone, the so-called Hitler-Rant or sometimes Hitler/Fegelein-Rant by using various scenes from the movie 'Downfall'. Literally hundreds of them can be found on Youtube.

In my opinion (or my perception) the Youtube clip posted earlier, where students talked about their perception of Germans/Germany before and after they took a class in German language gives a good impression how younger people may see Germans without further information. I even think this can generalized for any country-to-country and peoples-to-peoples relation, on average you will always hear those topics first which where/are recognized most.
From a statistics viewpoint, asking about stereotypes about Germans in a wargame forum may not give a valid sample......ok, this was a teaser, no guys and gals, you are not warmongers...just translate my forum nickname ;)

Back to topic:
What do you think a 5 to 10 second video intro should include to play with the stereotypes?
Right now I think about:
- Filling an enormous glass of beer
- typical German sausages
- something that graphically shows the german wish for perfection
- something mentioning the german technology

How about a man sitting in a Volkswagen, eating schnitzel and looking at a Tag Heuer watch, while waiting for his wife to bring him beer from the Liquor Store he's parked out front of?

Ack, I took some German in university and still spelled schnitzel wrong.

Yes! And he could be humming one of Beethoven's symphonies whilest straightening out his liederhosen* with the other hand (the one without the schnitzel)!

*If this is too stereotypical, we could substitute for one of those funny bavarian alpine hats with a feather in it.

Remember the rousing version of "Panzerlied" in Battle of the Bulge?  The link is an example of what I used to hear until I did a bit of self-study on the German language (IE, this is what German can sometimes sound like to an uneducated American's ears):
