Command and Control options

The development team behind the award-winning games Decisive Campaigns: From Warsaw To Paris and Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive year and theater of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue simulates the German drive to Stalingrad and into the Caucasus of the summer of 1942, as well as its May preludes (2nd Kharkov offensive, Operation Trappenjagd) and also the Soviet winter counter-offensive (Operation Uranus) that ended with the encirclement of 6th Army in Stalingrad and the destruction of the axis minor armies. With many improvements including the PBEM++ system, this is a release to watch for wargamers!

Command and Control options

Post by Longstreet_slith »

I am very interested in purchasing this game. I asked the same question about Gary Grigsby's East Front game. Can one issue orders at the divisional level and these will be carried out? Does one have to move each individual counter manually?

Thanks!

You have to move every piece like a board wargame. The only games that do what you are thinking about on a tactical/operational level are Battles from the Bulge and the older games Conquest of the Aegean and Highway to the reich. These are all sold by Matrix.

There are a few others out there like Scourge of War and Histwar but they are both 19th century.

You can issue Divisional level move orders in DCCB - moving the whole division to the same destination hex, either by road or by rail. Possible destination hexes are highlighted.

There is also a shortcut button for ordering ALL units adjacent to an enemy hex to attack it. This lets you avoid clicking every unit and you can deselect any you wish to leave out of the attack. There's another method that lets you LIST all adjacent units and pick the ones you want that way.

Similar controls are provided for Air attacks as well.

Overall, it's easier to manage than many other titles of this type, but you can't set an objective, say, as you would in WitP AE, and have your division march there automatically over several turns.

I didn't know you can do this in WitE...how does it work?

lol, it's because you can't in WitE. Not sure what this person is talking about with 'automatically' setting an objective and having your units move towards it. Unless there's some beta tester patch where this lives. Would like this person to clarify his statement. I could be wrong if it's a new patch feature...

I think that in War in Russia (?) you could do that. It was an old DOS game of Grigsby's a long time ago!!! Matrix may have ported it to run on Windows...
