Fog of War

Post by shilton2437 »

I was wondering whether in a next update, or as a mod, it would be possible to let a solo player have an option to turn off the fog of war. This option is fairly standard in many similar games. I realize that the game is a more accurate simulation of the uncertainty in WWI with FOW. However, there are some of us that (1) aren't that good at these games, but (2) still like to win anyway, and (3) who really is hurt by having an option to turn off FOW if one is playing solo anyway? Just a request. Thanks.

We had a lot of intern discussions about this and for CTGW the FOW is such an integral part of the gameplay, by turning it off the game is in fact ruined.

So it is not on our own immediate wishlist or patch list, but we have put it on the requested features list, so maybe we add it over time. But no promises.

Our main concentration at the moment are things like adding an undo button, adding an extra zoom in level, adding better and more diplomacy options, adding more events, adding better naval AI, doing some re-balancing, fixing bugs that are reported and numerous other small improvements.

We are also porting the game to iOS and aim to have an iPad version out within a few months.

An iPad version! YES!! I almost never take my laptop on the road anymore - just my iPad, so that is awesome. Will it be designed for reitina only? (I have a 1st gen retina model). I could lose my job over this. [:)]

An undo button is a must.

I would add an option for a more restrictive fog of war. Unless air recon has revealed units details (by attacking it) or the unit has been engaged its strength is unknown. Entrench level can likely be seen – pretty obvious to see if the enemy is entrench – but morale and strength is unknown. Would make for far more realistic attacks into the fog of war. Perhaps the armor car / cavalry has a special to recon enemy units not entrenched.
