Early - mid May would be my guess. The first week of May would be nice but I doubt it. Hope though...

I always go back to this: better to have it right than to have it fast.

Eric will let us know when it is release time, until then we all wait. [:)]

Totally agree : a delayed release means a more polished and balanced game.

No need to rush. :)

I've never suggested that it be released before it's ready.

But if it's slipped, I don't see how it is so much of a chore for Erik to write a post to that effect.

So strange how some get even more content knowing a game will be delayed indefinitely.
How about never? This would really be exiting ha.

Some kind of martyrdom?

It is a common law in game development that just because a game is delayed longer
doesn't mean it will not still have bugs and more often than not it does, sometimes major ones and usually what is causing the delay
is something that has very little to do with the core of the game as a whole (spell correction or adding
something to the title screen menu or making it compatible for Mac users or net framework 4.5 support)-who cares just give us the game if it runs.

Anyways to the point and to this I fully agree: "if it's slipped, I don't see how it is so much of a chore for Erik to write a post to that effect."

(Come on it was supposed to be out last year)Any idea what the hold up is and what part of next month it will be out or what time in the summer?

It's also a common law that games pushed out before their ready get bad reviews and therefore can expect lower sales. I personally found out about Distant Worlds from a site giving it a perfect score and I want sites like that to continue to reward quality. We know the game is going to be released and we know that the release date is soon... that's good enough for me, patience is a virtue.

By Shark's logic, Duke Nukem Forever should have been the most polished game released, with the most blockbuster sales ever.

Now, how did that work out?

On the other hand, we've all seen what happens when a game gets rushed out long before its ready and you have to buy DLC to get the game to work as it should from day one...cough...Simcity...cough. [:-]

There are exceptions to every rule. And it is more of a guideline after all. [;)] I still think that taking one's time to do it right usually ends up in it being done right. Of course you can take your time, make the most bug free game ever, and it can still flop if its not what the people want.

I wouldn't worry too much in this case, if past evidence holds true, we'll get a great game with the extra polish it needs.

I am actually interested in knowing how the release candidate is going. I have DW and both expansions and while not currently playing, eagerly looking to jumping back in when the expansion is released. The features, particularly improved ground combat - base capture - pre-hyperspace starts, is deeply appealing to me and what I am waiting for. Don't want to start a new game till I have access to those features. This expansion and the 'Old Gods' expansion are my next major projects!

In the meantime, playing 'Don't Starve'. Highly recommend.

Hi guys,

The whole team is pushing hard to release. Elliot and I are working overtime to make sure this is ready to release in May, it will not slip further. Right now the scheduled gold master date is May 14th with a release set for May 21st. The exact dates are subject to change, but given the current state of the game I have no reason to believe we will miss a May release. When I get a few more things off my plate, I'll post more details here as well. Some new screenshots are coming next week and I expect by the week after that we'll open the door on some AARs.

Regards,

- Erik

Excellent! Know you are very busy and I know you don't ever have a definite, exact date but that's all the info I needed to read.

Thanks

Thanks. Knowing the exact date makes it easier to wait for it. Looking forward to the screenshots and some YouTube playthroughs by beta testers before the initial release of the expansion would be nice. Just to increase some awareness and generally impress both the knowing and unknowing.

I don't own DW..but the focus on ground combat mentioned above certainly makes this a big proposition for me...alot of money to spend though..I shall keep my eye out on how the ground combat is received.

Dayum. I regret not signing up for the beta now so I'd get to Let's Play Shadows as one of the first. I don't know why I didn't beta sign-up, but I didn't consider myself very experienced with the game at the time, and I was modding it too. Oh well, I'll do another Legends LP soon instead.

um let's not forget in the sd-dw discussion that dw was once young too and received less than luke warm reviews on release. A 4x game is so complex, like an mmo it needs time to grow.
