I've also started getting some stuttering sounds for missiles and explosions. It may have started after running a game for awhile, or it could just be those two sounds. Dunno yet.

I'm having major performance issues as well. Zoom is very slow, interface is fairly unresponsive.

This is with a i7 4770k, GTX 660 Ti, and 8GB ram, Win8 64-bit.

The movement of the units is also choppy, but I'm assuming that is a result of the pulse tick (1 second).

My biggest issue is the zoom does not go where your cursor is, it just zooms in on the center of the screen. It's pretty frustrating, and would be much more helpful if when zooming it did so at the point of your cursor.

That last bit has also been requested elsewhere. Looks like a strong candidate for our first update.

That would be nice. But it's not been so bad for me since I started using Rt-Click to center the view on a map location. Since the map zoom is so sluggish, I try not to use the zoom too often anyway.

Definitely getting use out of the Rt-Click function.

Try turning off borders and coastlines in the map settings. At least on my machine, it makes a substantial difference in the speed of zooming. No idea why...

When discussing performance, it is useful to clarify if we are talking about UI performance (camera zoom/pan etc.) or sim-engine performance (e.g. how long it takes to run a few sim-seconds of biggies like Shamal etc.).

So far I am glad to observe that there hasn't been any reported problem on the latter (or maybe folks haven't tackled the beast scenarios yet [:)]). I am however somewhat surprised at the multitude of reports on the former; our impressions from the beta program were that UI ops were very fast for the vast majority of the testers.

We will definitely look into what we can do on this but we'll need everyone's help (precise system info, which exactly UI operations are lagging etc.)

Thanks to everyone!

I'd like to add my sim performance is poor - the units do not move smoothly, and often hiccup. This is with the i7 4770k, 8GB ram, gtx 660 ti, win 8 64-bit...is this expected? All around it just seems to run very poorly for me.

UI is slow, zooming is very slow/delayed, and the unit movements are jerky and erratic. (at the 1 second interval)

This is all on the first tutorial mission.

Any ideas?

It's not as responsive as I would expect.

Few items:

- Mouse-based zooming lags (2-3 sec)
- There are update problems in the sash panes to the right (as in, if something is dragged over them they may blank and not redraw)
- The detail box that follows the mouse leaves trails

Additionally, I tried to kill the program via right click->close on the task bar while the loadout dialog was open and the interface froze and required a taskkill.

i7, 2GHz, 12GB, nVidia GT 540M, Win 7/64, plenty of everything.

I am also experiencing poor performance, core i7 3820 @3.6GHz, 32GB of RAM, GeForce GTX670 w/2GB of video ram, on a 7200RPM caviar black HDD. This includes on zoom, and simulation. If I speed up the sim to anything about 15secs it comes to a screeching halt. Then I constantly get NOT RESPONDING, even on small scenarios. Yes I have tackled the larger Desert Storm operation. It just happened a few minutes ago on Down Town while USAF fighters were engaging MiG's..... I am going to turn off simulation sounds to see if that has anything to do with it.

The types of issues, and the fact they seem to be occuring more on faster systems really makes me think it is a driver settings issue. That is - frames rendering too fast and buffering up. It also seems from this thread at least that everyone has an nVidia card?

I think someone said they had already tried it, but I would once again suggest using the nVidia Control Panel and trying setting the render ahead value as low as possible, potentially forcing vsync on.

I know I had to add an option to remove some optimisations from Battle Academy because naughty drivers were causing exactly this problem...

Cheers

Pip

Pip, thanks for the suggestions. I'll give this a try when I get home and report back.

It's not only Nvidia cards. My desktop was experiencing this using an AMD.

I shut off sound and I have yet to have a hang up other than the sim coming to a crawl when I select 15sec increments or more.....

Pip,

Just FYI tried these steps and didn't seem to have any effect. I set frames ahead to 1 (lowest) and vsync to on. GUI is still slow to respond, and units movements are very jerky and inconsistent even at 1 second.

I have AMD and it is only scroll and zoom that seems to be jerky.
