Norfolk units

Post by bbbwl »

Hi, I have been playing the new patch and found that the Norfolk units are missing in the Jul 1861 start, can someone explain what happened?

If you start in Apr 1861 and move into Norfolk, on the first turn, you get the Norfolk garrison ( which has troops, cannons and the navel engineer) as well as the "Norfolk Guns" (with cannons mortars and supplies) and the CSS Virginia starts building with her Captain. This is true in both the basic game and update.

In the original game with the the Jul 1861 you get the same thing (had to wait one turn for the Norfolk guns). Now, with the update, you only get the single troop counter for the garrison and nothing else. What happened to the rest?

I have noticed that every fort I take in attempting to shut down imports to the South lose their costal artillery. Three forts in a row now, in 2 separate games. I set New York to build another one, but I’m looking at the icon & I don’t think I will be able to move it once it completes.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

You can move units by rail, even the static ones.

I use naval transports to move big guns to the forts.

As Jim says, you can move them via naval transport no problem.

But, you don't really need the big heavy coastal guns; any artillery will blockade the port. Fort Batteries will bombard ships better, but that is not likely to be a factor. Any CSA naval units are going to use unblockaded ports to resupply. I wouldn't spend the money.

Ok, I must have a bugged install. I can't. I'll reload this to another folder & try again [;)]

Some units may be static, hold your mouse over the unit card and read the message box to see if they are static. There is no graphic on the card that tells you this, only the mouse-over text can tell you. If it is static, it is permanently stuck in the region and can never be moved. I've never checked the coastal guns, but it does make sense that they would be static to the forts they belong to, so check them and see.

I think they have changed it in latest patch, not sure though. No more static units, just locked ones. So, no more confusion.
