Back with new map and fonts

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Back with new map and fonts

Post by Zovs »

Hello I am back after a few years off of playing this great game. Found the new map and love it, also found a really nice font system I like to use (counters pop out for my old eyes and I am an old board war gamer still).

Here are two screen shots.

Still catching up on all the new changes, new tactics and still love this game...

Not sure if the images will post (been a few years and I forgot how so below are the direct URL links):

I am using that JSMOD swapper thing, its pretty good. I have not tried the new counters yet, they were a bit washed out looking for me, I have a set of old camo ones I made years ago (well 2, lol). But I want to try a 'retroish' SPI type of counter if I can this winter.

I downloaded the mapmod file for wite and installed it per the instructions. The mod over wrote the original files and the graphics look like they are there but when I launch from my desktop it is the original map. The exe file in the modified wite folder crashes and says its not compatible wit the serial number. There is no forum support for the mod anywhere that I can see. What am I doing wrong?

Seems like I installed the mod to wrong directory. Duh... I have two of them. Going to try again using what I think is the main directory and see how it goes.
Thanks,

Did you use the JSGME program and follow the instructions on how to use the MOD swapper?

That is what I used and it works just fine. Currently running the exe of .13/11

Whoa.

Downloaded and am using the Mapmod mod and it has crashed the game twice now. It just happened for the second time right on the middle of a new game. Seems to be some definite bugs with this Mod. User beware.

The JSGME allows you to very easily and safely swap out mods to test them out.

Whoa.

Downloaded and am using the Mapmod mod and it has crashed the game twice now. It just happened for the second time right on the middle of a new game. Seems to be some definite bugs with this Mod. User beware.

The mod is a visual mod only, meaning it just replaces old images with new images – it doesnt delete or alter anything. So if installed right, the mod simply cant crash your game.

Often people want to make backups of certain game folders before they install a mod – but instead of copying a folder they accidently move it instead, resulting in game crashes since files and/or folders are missing. This is a very easy mistake to make, I have done it myself.

The mod has been downloaded countless times during the last seven or so month, so it is thoroughly tested, and only one person have reported a similar problem – but that turned out to be a moved folder, so the mod was not to blame.

Whatever the problem is, I hope you figure it out.

The new map is excellent but the colour of counters. What should I do for keeping the original version of counters?

What I did was to make a copy of the file (after unzipping it) and then removing the UI and Unit folders and only including the map files directories and then using the JSGME only applying that new mod I created from the base mod.

So in other words, after I made a copy of the original unzipped files I created a new folder called (for lack of better words):

E:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\MODS\MapMod.WitE.September.Map.Only

In this directory I left all the original files as:

E:\Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the East\MODS\MapMod.WitE.September.Map.Only\Dat\Art

But I only kept the jumpmap file and onoly the Zoom directories and files, and deleted all the other directories.

Then using the Mod swapper, apply it (just this mod) thus using the new map and keeping the existing counters and UI.
