Come on with the AARs!

As usual I'm tempted to buy every East Front game that comes out, especially if they get good reviews...

But I've read the product page and a few of the threads and still have no idea about how the game works. Looks very similar to ASL, but how does it play? I didn't care much for CoH for some reason, so hopefully this is different.

Some AARs would be most helpful, but so far the AAR subforum is completely empty. For any of you new buyers with time on your hands, a couple of AARs would be most helpful to people like me!

Wish I could produce an AAR for you, but I'm no good at such. The game is broken into two phases-
rally (you attempt to rally "shaken" units and can change weapon modes: place MG42 in tripod or
bipod mode for example) and activation, I think that's what it's called, where you move your units,
have them shoot, start a melee, or whatever. I'd say that the system is easy to learn, but will require
sometime to learn and become decent at. Artwork is great, sound is great, and gameplay/AI are great
as well, but I've encountered some bugs while playing the Red Army Campaign that took the wind out of
my sails. If you're a die-hard East Front guy I'm sure you'll love it, but be forewarned it's a little
rough around the edges in it's current state.

That is an excellent AAR from which to learn the flow of the game. Maybe not the best demonstration of German tactics though!

The original boardgames differentiated types of Russian units by color



There were line units and there were Guards units. The colors helped differentiate because there were different rules about which leaders could interact with which kinds of units. It's the same reason there are different colors for the Germans - black (SS), gray (Wehrmacht), and light blue (Fallschirmjaeger).

Remember that this a computer adaptation of a game that's been around a decade.
It doesn't hurt to look at what's already been done in a pretty vast - and growing - catalog of boardgames on which the PC game is based.
