Naval recon

Post by guderian68 »

Hi everybody,

I have a problem with naval recon mission. I'm playing Smooth trail scenario : first at all I create a patrol surface mission assigning all of my helicopters. They always go over an unknow ship, then loiter but never classified it.

Later in the scenario I found finally the soviet convoy, but my helicopter still not tell me something about it.
Since I have a submarine nearby, i send it to periscope depth and finally every enemy vessel was correctly identified!!!!!
What I'm doign wrong here ?

Thanks a lot

Thick fog 0-610m, solid cloud 2,13-10km. I'm guessing that has something to do with the problems of spotting the ships from on high :)

If its thick fog you could very well have your feet on the ship's deck and still not be able to identify it hehe.

Suggest you contact the scenario's author and ask if this was intended? And maybe ask if he/she can change the weather a bit?

Hi

the fog could be the problem, but this should apply also to the submarine. The helos are at low altitude and not at high (I checked out the standoff option on mission editor). The submarine was several miles away (the ships were outside its surface weapon range rings) but still identifies them.

I will try later to show some pics.

thanks

Oops, the fog of war :)
Maybe the submarine used radar?

Take it as a question only please (don't want to offend anyone) : can radar identify class and name of enemy contact? If so my doubt will disappear!

Ok forgot my post.
I remembered that I have recorded the battle. Looking close at it I found out that 5 second before my submarine came to periscope depth the enemy activate all of its sensors so they became identified....
So all clear and thanks a lot for the patience!
