US 30 Cal Jeep........too tough?
i must ask the question. Why are those US jeeps (30cal) so darn hard the kill. IMO they should cannon fodder. In a game recently i was tucked behind a hill with a 233 AT recon lying in wait for my sniper on the hill spotted the unsuspecting jeep. as the jeep came into the kill zone (about 6 hexes away) i unloaded 4 rounds ...........nothing.....he returns fire ....just bounced off my armor.....now im a little surprised that this tinker toy has not been destoyed. the next turn he runs past me now i have to chase this time im now moving........i come again to 6 hexes fire away.........nothing my AT guns does nothing.......now im pissed....im chasing a frinkin jeep and can even hit him.....the next turn he unloads on me and boom.....2nd shot kill........what gives? this is just one example....these jeeps should be easily destroyed when into enemy area. i dont mind when a m8 is tough to kill i can understand ......but these jeep drive me crazy.......and my allied opponents now that there is something up also because they buy them like candy........any thoughts would be greatly appreciated......

My feeling is they aren't rated to tough in the game. They are small and fast. I do agree they are a pain in the butt though
Kind of makes you wonder just who is driving those jeeps to even consider going up against an 233. I bought 233's again for my last game and do think it will be my last time doing so. The 30 shouldn't have had the power to punch through your armor though I don't think, I'd have to look to be sure. A 50cal on the other hand might nail it in the side (your armor is only an 8 for the side I think) or disable it. The most common problem I've had with the 233's is the crews abondon them when hit with much over a rifle shoot.

ROFL the jeeps are to tough ?? whats next 60mm mortar abuse ... making the truck drivers carry knives instead of pistols ??? It had to be a 50cal ... i killed a Nashorn with a 50 cal jeep once hit it in the rear ..Don't even ask me why the other guy was using a Nashorn to scout unescorted in the woods ..I haven't a clue .. I know it was appropiate to have a jeep scouting LOL

I don't think the subject line really pointed to the question he was asking Ammo. I don't think he was trying to point to any kind of dumbing down of the jeep, but rather why he was seeing what he was seeing. We know that the jeep is small and fast, so if it was moving it is hard to hit. We also know that if our unit is moving this makes the jeep even harder to hit still. I would say this is the answer I should have given him straight out for his consideration. It's a fair question for him to ask. Frustration enters into the equation when you've fired every thing including the kitchen sink at a target that seems like it should be meat on the table. Take a deep breathe Ammo I ain't after the jeeps and I don't think anyone else is.

Heh.. definately OT, but was flipping channels on TV and happened about The Rat Patrol a few days ago.. pretty funny show - they captured this 'german' tank so they could destroy a supply depot (though I think they did as much damage with a SMG and a jeep).. Anyways for whatever reason the 'german' tank was a Sherman.

Just a quick note on this. German equipment was very scarce after WW2 and became scarcer as time wore on. By the 50's and 60's most of it had worn out completely and movie and television studios were scrambling to find it for the shows and movies of the time. WW2 American equipment was still fairly common though. (Even a number of demolition companies purchased Shermans to use in knocking down buildings.) So, the props guys tried to do the best they could with what they had available. Hence, in many movies, you'll see American equipment dressed up to look German. (In the movie, "The Battle of the Bulge" I think they used Patton tanks slightly doctored for Tigers.)

i not complaining, im just curious thats all. 233 lying in wait vs a jeep running through the kill zone..........i think 3 shots tops......just my thoughts......had other interesting results on tanks too some 99% chance of hitting and get nothing?.....i just dont get it sometimes....i guess there was a 1% chance of missing but really how often would that happen?

Hi Krec,
I don't think that the percentage you are shown is the real percentage to actually hit the vehicle. There are other factors too involved. See it as a "base" percentage. It is still in most cases a very good indication on how good chances you have.

Krec, don't buy 233. Take 222reconcar. Then its opponents turn to get frustrated. This little beauty has plenty of APCR's, it has 20mmKwk, it shoots down mustangs, it kills wolvies, it hits while its driving with full gas. Real pain in the for jeeps driver coz its almost as fast, but has better accurary in aiming and fírepower. And its cheap.

Did you actually hit it? I could see a jeep rushing through an ambush and not getting hit because of its size and speed. If you were hitting it without causing any damage, then there might be something wrong.Originally posted by Krec:

In my experience, just about every nation has these quick lil annoying buggers (i.e. the German Kubelwagen MG). Hard to hit no doubt, but once hit (even with a beretta or walther or misc small arms, usually goes down) My advice.....forget main tank guns against them, MGs work plenty well against them.

The jeeps on AI hands are a menace. When I am using them they get hit and almost always get destroyed but when I shoot at them and I hit them they somehow often keep on going.
I prefer the M8, They were my most valuable units in UtoR. Fast, hard to hit, able to carry 2 man scout team and bazooka team and able to destroy many lesser German tanks from behind. Also with the two machineguns great against infartry.

I guess we have all encountered the AI super soldiers at one time or another. I enjoyed AmmoSgt's intelligent use of a .50 cal jeep. You never know what you are going to encounter as the enemy scout, unless you are fighting russians so the first afv you will see will almost always be a t34.
USMCGrunt: one of the major reasons the "German" forces in many of the 60's and 70's war movies are using U.S. equipment is that they were actually the Spanish army. Check out the "making of Patton" included on the Patton DVD. The Spanish army was equipped with 50's era U.S. equipment and was for rent cheaper than Screen Actor's Guild extras in Hollywood.
