Having trouble getting m CV repaired

Post by derhexer »

The Wasp took a couple of torpedo hits and is now sitting in PH trying to get repaired. Looking at the Ops report I see this message
"No additional repairs possible on CV Wasp using currently assigned resources at Pearl Harbor" When I look at the Wasp I see it has 31 lt hits.

So, how can I get the Wasp repaired?

Having the same problem with the Lexington which has 34 flt hits and is docked in Sydney.

Thanks
Chris

By default ships are assigned to Readiness repair which only uses the ship's crew. To get more serious damage repaired, you need to assign the ship to a shipyard, pier side, or a repair ship. On the ships in port screen click on the Manage Ships Under Repair button and assign the ship to a resource that will fix the damage. Sydney's shipyard may be too small for the Lexington. You may have to move the ship to a port with a larger shipyard. Pearl Harbor's shipyard is big enough to handle any Allied ship. At least any single ship. You can overload any shipyard with a lot of ships.

+1. And as stated by Bill, Need to put into shipyard repair mode. I believe Sydney will not be able to fully repair the Lex as the shipyard is not large enough. If you only have flotation damage, then sent her to PH for repairs. But only after the system damage is repaired. With 34 flotation damage it should be ok, but keep an eye on her....GP

You're going to want plenty of escorts for the Lexington (I'd say at least 40 ASW points) and I'd put her in an Escort Task Force rather than Air Combat. Escort will help, in my experience, keep things afloat and you can't react to enemy units. If you still have flight deck operations, crank the CAP up to 50%, allocate 20% to training, and 30% rest, have 50% of your SBDs/TBDs on ASW patrols to harass any subs sent your way and the rest on training/rest, use waypoints to steer far south of any Japanese LBAs (hello Tahiti?), select cruise speed (slow but safe) for your task force, and chug across the Pacific to Pearl.

You'll get there eventually but you're going to need the Lady Lex alive so that's ok. Be sure to crank up the repair priority on the Lexington to High or Critical once you get her into the yard. I never have AKs, APs, or Support type vessels on anything but Low priority unless they are the only thing being fixed in the yard. I can wait for an APA or AVD to get fixed, not warships that can bring the fight to the enemy.

Also, watch the shipyard tonnage. If you go over with the carrier, put a ship with enough tonnage into pierside to fix sys damage while the CV repairs....GP

If your CV is going to be in the yard for an extended period of time (more than a week or so), be sure to transfer the planes to the airfield and crank up the training. CVs in dry-dock don't train planes. May as well get your squadrons some flight hours.

My experiences say this is not true.

Thanks, I did not know that. I knew CVs, etc. did train when docked (I assume that meant short cruises around the harbor/base to get to launch speed for catapults) but hadn't seen this before.

This game, two years and 400+ turns in, constantly surprises me.

If pilots can't fly and are set to train, they will train, but they train much quicker if they can fly. So there still is an advantage to taking them off the carrier to train.

I think this change in the latest official patch says that they will train normally, but I might be wrong. I think that disbanded, pier side repair, and shipyard repair are all the same.

It was introduced in the second patch

59. Gameplay Change: Allowed groups on disbanded ships to do training missions to save from moving them ashore. Training from disbanded ships does not increase the pilot mission count.
