and the game does indeed encourage that mindset ... here's a battle report in some detail, 3 British divisions clearing Messina (which was a level 3 fort):

Now I didn't use ground support but did do a lot of interdiction and you can see the advantage from that in terms of disrupted etc Italian elements before the battle. Beyond that, I struggle to see much that is 'wrong'. My tanks were ineffective, but that can be explained by the fortification problem. My supporting artillery was effective (more Italian disruptions before the close combat started), the target was well reconned (I'd been building up in the previous turn). Element for element, the Italians did well but they were well dug into prepared positions while my shorter range support elements (mortars et al) are moving up behind the assault.

My divisions had average morale/experience (65 or so), a bit more fatigue than maybe desirable (30), all in the same corps.

Thank you for posting Loki. The elephant in the room (sorry Messina) there is those are Italians. Im not really seeing this effective artillery there Loki. The Italian rifle squads compared to your rifle squads are pretty effective 128% v 4.66%. The Italian 45mm mortars are impressive 261% effective to the 25 pdrs 7%. I can't help but notice your odds are 7.4 to one were as mine are 34.7 to 1

Range is now 57, People always debate what piece of equipment or lack of it cost Germany the War. Some argue Me262's other argue Tiger tanks some even believe the HE177 was an airplane, truth is it was pioneers. A staggering 3500% effectiveness dwarfing even the dreaded Motorcycle squads not only that but these boys actually kill as well

I´m not questioning your motives. [:)] I just think it would be a hundred times easier for the devs if you sent them the save so they could look at it. As many have said there are lots and lots of different variables at work. No doubt many which we arn´t even aware of.

What scares me the most is the two motorcycle squads. Two. Who wiped out a battalion of Allied soldiers. Dude.

I'm certain there's a good number of Hollywood realisators who would love making a film with this scenario. Imagine Fury, but with a motorcycle instead of a sherman. Instant box office hit [:D]

And we already have a cover ->

Your probably right Joc and i'll send it on. But sometimes you just need to demonstrate the *spirit* of what you think is not going right. For instance my Churchills in the battle did not even attack and my Shermans did not even appear yet I lost two. When you consider my Bren gun carriers and 6pdrs attacked it leaves you scratching your head abit

Just fyi the motorcycle squads did not wipe out anyone, 1 destroyed element and 3 damaged elements that's it. Lots of disruption though.

Also can someone tell me what the CW elements are doing in the Axis list?? I mean the two entries that have CW** as nation and each 0 ready elements. Those are the Churchill IV and 40mm AA guns.

The combat engine in this series is notably opaque and can drive people nuts.
