Random Maps?

Post by gcbisset »

I would like to discover a rapid method for making random maps, but before I do, I wonder if anyone has already solved this one?

I was thinking of using the Isomage online program to make random hexmaps, always using the same size map, then using a pic resizer to convert each image to the correct size to line up with the FC maps. Once I know the correct image size, I can just plug it into the resizer, then add the map values.

Has anyone already done this?

Thanks !

I have played with the maps with my OtsFp9Tools.

The only thing i don't have done is creation a hex but always copy.

Making a random map right now is only a part of the job, the bridges are unfortunately defined within the scenario not the map itself.

I believe we are changing bridges in Southern Storm to be map defined and then the scenario designer can "blow" bridges as needed in ScenEdit.
OTS is looking forward to Southern Storm getting released!

George,

interesting question. The problem hasn't been solved. Also, because IMO, it is more of a hassle to make the scenario than the map.

Using Isomage to generate a map might work, as long as you are able to define the art it uses. For Red Storm, the art needs to conform to expected values for elevations, buildings, forests, etc. The Hexdraw templates .zip file contains the spreadsheet with expected color numbers; it's the first post "Map Art and Hexdraws Templates now LIVE!!! " in this section.
Hexes should be 64 pixels high (64px / 500m = 128 px / km).
