RE: Updated WGSF OOB

Post by Tazak »

Finally completed the OOB changes to match FM100-2-3, just writing up a full change log.

Here are some random screen shots of the last few minor changes
Div HQ how has Primary & secondary HQs (identical TOE, representing HQ & signals company)
Div Recon Bn has 2 coy each with 2 platoons of BMP and 1 platoon of MBT, and 1 coy of 1 platoon 6x BRDM and 1 platoon of 6x scout/6 BTR
redone infantry & scout units and created engineer platoon
BMP/BTR/Engineer platoons now available under low level units (platoon section)

Quick note about the formations, I've split this into 2 types normal and deployed. Normal is straight forward formations regt HQ, recon, 3x main bn, 1x other bn, arty bn. Deployed formations have a new formation Lead Bn which is the combined force with CRP, FSE, advance guard. There also (-) reduced battalions representing the units that provide additions to the lead Bn

Attached is V1 file of 'WGSF Combat Formations FM10023'

Final Change log for V1 (sorry its short but I was about to write 100 page document detailing all the changes)

Unit Tab changes:
1. Created K series of tanks, these represent K series command tanks used at company/battalion and regimental HQs. Same stats as standard tanks less 5 rounds of main gun ammo and no ATGM/TLM. These do not add to the command point allocation.
a. Uses CompID: TANK-K

2. Separated Missile firing tanks into their own COMPID
a. Uses COMPID: TANK-M

3. Created ACRV M1974 – represents the MTLB ACRV arty FDC/command vehicles, same stats as MTLB (utility version). These do not add to the command point allocation.
a. Uses COMPID: A-COMV
b. SUTag: RU83A

4. Created 2 mech infantry units
a.(RU366)Mechanized Rifle – updated weapons loadout as per FM100-2-3
b.(RU367)Mechanized Engineer – same stats as mech rifle unit, weapon loadout representative of engineer weapon i.e. RPO launchers and Satchel Charges
I. Uses COMPID: INF-ENG

5. BRM-1K Korshun (RU195) – removed Thermal imaging from sensors list (shouldn’t have TI from 1973, need to research when it did receive TI) at which time an late version BRM-1k will be created

6. Hidden T55/T72 tank variants as this OOB focuses on WGSF 1979-1989
a. Used COMPID: TANK-P (remove the –P to unhide)

7. Hidden some aircraft as this OOB focuses on WGSF 1979-1989 (mainly the older airframes)
a.Uses COMPID: AIR-AT-P or AIR-LB-P (remove the –P to unhide)

8.Split Arty into regimental, divisional and army/front level types
a.Uses COMPID: -R, -D, -A respectively

9.Split SAM into regimental, divisional and army/front level types
a.Uses COMPID: -R, -D, -A respectively

Formation changes
Carried out nearly a full rewrite of the formations to match FM100-2-3, far too many changes to list in detail without rewriting the FM100-2-3 as well so below are the key changes starting from the top:

1.Divisional HQ now reduced to 2 elements
a.Primary HQ
b.Secondary HQ

2.Added DAG groups (SP & towed) to Divisional HQ

3.Regiment sized formations now split into 2 layouts, each with 4 variants.
a.<TD/MRD Formations >
b.<TD/MRD Deployed Formations >
i. Motor Rifle Regiment (BTR)
ii.Motor Rifle Regiment (BMP)
iii.Tank Regiment (TD)
iv.Tank Regiment (MRD)
Deployed Formations represents a regiment deployed in line-of-march with new low level formations as details below. Each formation comes in a number of flavours to match the regiment.

4.New formations created to support deployed formation
a.Lead Battalion (1 per regiment type, each containing the following)
i.Combat Recon Patrol (CRP)
ii.Forward Security Element
iii.Advance Guard
b.AA Company (-)
c.Tank Battalion (-) (MRR)
d.Tank Battalion (-) (TR)
e.Motor Rifle Battalion (-) (BMP)
Lead Battalions contain elements from the regiment thus requiring the reduced formations.

5.BTR rifle companies now have enlarged support platoon (increase of 3 AT7 per coy)

6.BTR/BMP mortar coy increased to 8 barrels

7.Tank Battalions have 1 coy of missile firing tanks and 2 coy of standard tanks (except MRD Divisional Tank Bn)

8.Divisional Recon Battalion reworked

9.Divisional Anti-Tank Battalion reworked (2 bty ATG, 1 bty SPATGM)

10.Divisional Tank Battalion (MRD) moved into Divisional assets

11.Strategic Assets renamed Army & Front Assets

12.Attack Helicopter Regiment moved into Army & Front Assets

13.Created Mortar Battalion-Towed under Army & Front Assets

14.Divisional and Army Arty increased to 8 barrels per battery

15.Created 3 platoons under LOW LEVEL UNITS/INF Platoon, these can be used for either flavour or flank/rear guards for deployed formation.
a.Mechanized Infantry Platoon (BTR)
b.Mechanized Infantry Platoon (BMP)
c.Mechanized Engineer Platoon

NOTE: Where FM100-2-3 presented options for increasing available firepower, these were used under 2 guiding principals
a. More fire power is good
b. It’s easier to remove excess units than to add more units in the scenario editor

I’ve locked down very few units (BRM-1K, Mech Infantry and a few other minor units), the rest still provides different variants although some are reduced i.e. tanks and aircraft.
