Well, Raver and I are gonig to be swapping turns much slower for the next 2-6 weeks, and this could be a pain because the action just started to hot up.

I sent some CVs over to Wupenko to bomb the port - I had reconned the place earlier and found a dozen LCI and APD ships in there and thought this would be an excellent opportunity to get my carrier pilots some more experience, as well as damaging his best invasion tools before they start invading!

Raver saw me coming (IJN CVEs are very, very slow) and transferred some Corsairs over to Wupenko - as well as setting plenty of CAP, he shoved a few transports into Wupenko in TFs and with their home base there (he's tried this trick before). Those transports are the bait to lure my bombers over his flak and under his fighters on full CAP!

Well, my bombers were set to naval attack/port attack, and wisely they decided to hit the port. Guess what they found?

The "i" screen records the air to air losses a little differently however! I lost 4 planes to flak, 6 to operational losses, and 22 to Raver's fighters, while he lost 32 fighters to mine! I tangled with Corsairs and although I only got 1 of them, I tore one wildcat squadron apart.

Now my CVs are going to hit the airbase there and smash some Corsairs on the ground hopefully. Tenessee and Maryland are older battlewagons - the sort you escort transports with instead of bombarding things with. Witchita, Aulick and Maryland are the only ships on the above list that I don't think I did appreciable damage to. The rest will be in port for a long time (or more likely, Raver will palm them off to Pearl to get even mor ships back in return).

Nice to know that when the invasions start, the IJN battlewagons will now probably outnumber Ravers at 3.5 to 1 or better (Maryland and Washington against my 7 BBs!!!).

Fortunately, Irau is now pretty secure - lots of troops.

A bit annoyed that Raver says he isn't invading PM - I took the gamble and packed many, many big regiments in there and now the jungle is just going to eat them until the end of the game. The supply situation is fine, but I can't risk my precious transports in evacuations from PM and GG (even to save all that flak that is going to rot while his bombers are hitting Lunga). I am certainly not sending them marching over the mountains to Buna!!!!

Why not? In games against PC, I always sent Allied troops over Oven Stanley in order to capture Lae and Finnshafen early in the game. Once I even sent 4 regiment over to Madang......And it worked:D

Ok, I am back home for the weekend and have had a chance to see the damage that was done to my ships.....it is not nice! Once again, Luskan is using his Uber CVs TF to tramp all over me, and there seems little that I can do to stop him:mad: It is just a case of sucking it up, and weather the storm........not something that I like to do. In the mean time Noumea has been cleared of all shipping, so at least that is safe for the time being.

Luganville is a worry as I have just started transferring my B-17s there.....just have to hope that is not also on his target list.

More than happy to let Luskan sit and rot in PM, I might even send over a few bombers loaded with SARS to add to his misery:D

Well buggered if I know what Luskan is upto:confused: His Uber CV TF had me cold in their sights and he runs away under the cover of a storm! I now have 2 BBs that will make it to Noumea and then onto Pearl (maybe I will send them there, I still need the yardbirds to give them a closer look to see how bad the damage really is).
All I can say is that Luskan has done me a great favour! Mind you that returned the favour and have given his engineers something to do at Dobadura :D

Only a truly stupid person would surprise attack raver, and then repeat everything the next turn, in thunderstorms, when he is very, very ready for me.

I'll risk my CVs for surprise raids, and I lost very few planes for the damage I inflicted. More than I had hoped for in fact. I won't send pilots to the wall now, under Raver's air cover. No, he can come and have a go at me under my impressive LBA squadrons - and those ships will be sunk, rather than just damaged in port where they are unlikely to sink.

My Uber CV tf will not be risked very often - it must be held in reserve and in prime condition and readiness in order to hammer any invasion, or CV incursions that Raver attempts. His PM strategy is admirable - and all I can really do there is evacuate troops I don't want bombed, while pack in the expendable INF units (and the mines - never forget the mines).

Turns have been extremely slow this week (just as much my fault this w/e as during the week). However after a week or so I'll be able to return to much more normal programming, as will Raver.

Good to see Herbieh and Wobbly are keeping the readers interested with their AAR duo while we're off the clock!

Ok, I am going to go out on a limb here and state that within the next two months Luskans Uber CV TF will be smashed.......the forces of good are gathering, and soon the one ring that binds them all will be destr.......oops reality check.

In another of my PBems as the USN, I have just learnt how the IJN player can effectively preserve his forces - and although his pilots are crap, all my CVs are loaded with hellcats and corsairs (4CVs, 4 CVEs, 2 CVLs all packed with nastiness in 9/43) and he doesn't have ANY CVs in theatre . . . he has still managed to sink or cripple my entire strikeforce bar 2 CVs that escaped with only a few points damage.

Fortunately, I am in a stronger position than he is - and I am counting on my submarine fleet to wreak havoc on any invasion Raver mounts - not to mention my LBA should get involved too!

I would enjoy the reading of the AAR Raver.

But I am sure there will be more interesting reading between now and game time OCT 43...........

Bullshit! Your subs do nothing but get sunk everytime your sortie them....your LBA is a weak as **** and will not last more then three missions before becoming combat ineffective, and your so called "stronger position " is nothing but drug induced wet dream. This game will not really start until the middle of '43.

Brief bug with the game but I've reinstalled and fixed it.

Raver hasn't seen any of my subs sort for 4 months. I only had two undaamged subs then, now I've got a few more, they will not be attempting to close USN shipping lanes, rather they'll be sitting around any possible invasion beaches, ready to strike!

Speaking of beer I had some happy experiences with Japanese beer the other night. Only had 4 myself - 4 Steins that is ;)

Think it was Tiger beer, not too sure. The hot saki/happy hour steins and the plum wine (sort of fortified like port, but more like a sweet syrup - same brand as the soy sauce though).

Thinking maybe the IJN had the better of the drinking in the war after all!

Bad news people, I have been "ordered" to spend a third week in Sydney......I think that the gods are against me......so this AAR will continue to be quite for at least another ten days or so. Should be able to get a few moves in over the weekend, provided that Luskan is in range of his ISP. This is going to make a total of 15 days without UV :( I am reaching the end of my tether!!!!!!!!
