RE: OOB information questions
Which one? The Database, or the map file?

Done so.
Maybe I'm missing a code. I've tried "Engineer", "Eng", "Pioneer", etc...
In the meantime, another question.
There seems to be a lack of self-propelled mortars in Soviet formations. Where would these usually be found? Tank battalions?

If you get Combat Engineers to do all those tasks you'll be the only person on the planet that I know that has.

Well, there's a code remnant somewhere that allows you to place those 12 Bravos, but not use them. Darwin's investigating at the moment.

RE: OOB information questions
They won't work right now either. The code is initially pulling that "Eng" from some typecast code, but when the game loads or reloads they are getting recast into a game useable type of infantry. The fix for all of that is called Southern Storm and the 2.1 game engine with the expanded engineering capabilities. Sorry.

RE: OOB information questions
What I'm finding jarring about the East Germans is how small their Kompanies were compared to Soviet, American, Wgerman, etc... formations.
For example, a Panzer Kompanie in a Panzer Division is only 3 tanks.
I've had trouble with the infantry as well. I wonder how the East Germans were going to cram the CHQ, MANPADS team, and 9 infantry squads within only 4 transporters? I Guess it makes sense with the SPW-50 (BTR-50), given it's large capacity.

RE: OOB information questions
Stimpak, if you are using the Fire and Fury OOBs, the numbers used refer to stands of a unit. That can be 2 to 5 squads or vehicles. That tank company is 3 stands and a HQ or 9 + 1 tanks. For example in a tank division.

Yes, I'm using that OOB for my East German database
(As for the Engineers, I've reroled their companies as Mech Inf, but for the sake of Abstraction I'll probably end up deleting them and the custom units I introduced)
There's a handful of other items I added as well, including Eger unit badges and a custom background inside a new East German folder, as well as some unit art to the Common folder.
Plenty of work remains to be done, including polishing the 80's formations, revamping the Air Assault brigades into East Germany's elite Luftsturmregiment 40, etc...
I looked at the site awhile back, but saw the pricetags on a few of them and lazily wrote it off. I've noticed the section of "Free" lists though, thanks.
RE: OOB information questions

What comprises a "NBC Recon Team"?
BRMs? BMP-2s?
RE: OOB information questions
normally a BRDM-2RKh were used for NBC recon units
Here's some of the work I did a while ago
Combat formations BTR regiment
CRP: (flagged as recce)
BTR Platoon (3 BTR, 3 INF), Engineer recon (Scout + BTR), NBC recon (BRDM2)
FSE:
Coy HQ, 2 platoon, 1 Tank Platoon
AA Section
Bn Mortar
Advance guard:
Bn HQ (for HQ structure purposes Bn HQ is top of OOB)
2x coy (BTR)
Tank Coy (-)
AA Platoon – HQ = 2x ZSU-23-4, 2 sections of MANPADs
ATK platoon
Arty Bn

NVA Panzerkompanieen in Motorisiertes Schützenregiments (Motorized Rifle Regiments) featured 13 tanks (often T-55s, sometimes T-54s) whereas the ones in Panzerregimenten featured 10 tanks (T-55s or T-72s).

RE: OOB information questions
Going to ask the "Air Question".
Air support on either side seems strangely absent. Though I can see why: In the Six-day war, the Israelis knocked out nearly the entire Egyptian Air Force before it could take off. In Flashpoint, the Soviets have the First Strike advantage here, and it's likely that they would have achieved most of their objectives: When a MiG-23 Pilot took off from Poland and then ejected due to mechanical error, he watched as his MiG-23 continued to climb and soar off into the distance.
That MiG-23 continued all the way to Belgium where it crashed into a house, killing an unfortunate 18 year old. Yet, this single MiG was not intercepted until it was already over Osnabrück; And this was in 1989, the year of FCRS' story.
So, in general, I'm going to ask:
-How much air support could a NATO brigade expect?
-How much air support could a Soviet division expect?
-How much air support could a Non-Soviet Warsaw Pact division expect?
And finally:
Are there any plans to incorporate air-to-air combat in Southern Storm?

RE: OOB information questions
Short answer is "put your finger in the air", longer version goes into what scenario setting are you looking at, there is a thread somewhere about air power or air support I'll see if I can find it once I get home.
You cant really narrow it down to those 3 questions as there are too many factors like how hard would soviet airpower and SSM hit NATO airfields (assume very hard), would NATO then put AAM onto as many airframes as possible to battle the 1000s of WP aircraft - this would reduce aircraft available for CAS. Additionally WP would likely try to gain at least air polarity over critical sectors, every commander from both sides would been screaming for air support - neither side would have enough to go around, NATO/US would also be focusing on interdiction attacks trying to reduce WP combat power from reaching the front lines
On a positive note: as the scenario designer you can put in as many or few aircraft as you want, some use it sparingly (1-2 flights for the entire battle) others prefer a more liberal sprinkling of aircraft with short availability times (a full squadron come in as reinforcements and then withdrawal after 1-2 hours), there really is not right or wrong way its up to you and how you want aircraft to affect the battle.
