Only released after seeing the vid that it was an updated Armageddon EMpires. Personally the cartoon look they went with doens't do it for me at all. I think it should have had a much more gritty dark look to match the theme.

Did "Auroch Digital" buy out "Cryptic Comet's" 'Armageddon Empires'?

No, or at least Iain didn't say anything about money being involved. LDoOE was developed with Cryptic Comet (i.e. Vic Davies) approval, though. Apparently he didn't want to get directly involved as he doesn't do PC development any more.

AE had that annoying issue that units in bases could be reduced by siege to a virtual nil value really quickly. Losing a base lost the game.
There was not much point defending a location. Better to be near a location, IIRC.

Its a long time since I played it, but I remember that being a game breaker for me.

The page says it is the "spiritual successor" to Armageddon Empires, so AE was an influence. I watched a let's play on youtube.

This one is definitely a buy for me.

That's kinda sad since he had some great ideas just needed more polish on the games he made. Six Gun Saga is my favorite and I had wanted him to make the combat more interesting individually instead of all or nothing.

The hell game was a pretty good idea also but the AI was terrible. I stifled myself I forget how many ways to give that AI a chance and it never did play a good game.

I did mod Six Gun Saga to play a better game as the AI though. He opened that one up a bit more to be able to mod it. Though I never could figure out how to add more leaders. I could add a ton more fighters and townsfolk and indians and adjust the modifiers on some of the cards that were out of balance imho. Once I was done 25 to 30 turn games were harder. The ai would stretch itself too thin with 3 posse's so I cut that back to 1 or 2. Think it was 2 I finally settled on but the 1 posse game was pretty tough.

I liked 6 gun best of all. The Hell one didn't work at all, as you said.

Still, I always bought his games. Very very good effort for a one man show.
