[WAD + MINOR ADJUSTMENT B826] Issues with the Strike Planner

Post by Sykoticwit »

I'm playing the scenario Kitty comes to Kamchatka, and I'm trying to launch a major strike against the Soviet airbase and air defense net. I's a big strike, with over 100 total aircraft from three different bases involved. The issue I'm having is with the 24 A-6's coming from Adak. It's about 900 miles from Adak to the targets, so I flew them about 600 miles, manually tanked them and then assigned them to the land strike mission. I left the tankers in the air about 300 miles away from the target area with plenty of fuel to top off the A-6's on their way back to Adak (I tanked the entire strike mission at the same time, and my six tankers are still 3/4 full. Fuel is not an issue here).

As soon as I assigned the A-6's to the strike mission, I got an error message saying that the four groups from Adak might not have enough fuel to complete the mission. Their groups broke up and they all went RTB (bingo). In the strike planner I specified using tankers to extend range if available. There has got to be a way to get the strike planner to see those tankers as mission assets, I'm just not sure what it is.

If I really had to, there are work arounds. There is a base within 400 miles of the targets, so I could just reassign the A-6's to that base, have them land, and use the scenario editor to fast ready them in an hour to simulate refueling. I could also manually carry out the strike, assigning flight paths and targets manually, but that would be a huge pain in the butt. Also, I know you guys put a lot of work into the strike planner and I kind of want to see how it works.

I have a save if it would help, but I suspect this is more an issue of user ignorance than bugs.

Help?

Once you make the save, compress it into a zip file and then attach it to one of your posts. You might not be able to add any attachments to your posts however, judging on the amount of total posts you have.

Hmm I think this is WAD?

First of all, what version of the sim are you using? I assume the latest 1.11 RC?

The only strike mission in the scenario was 'Radar Strike'. It has the 'Pre-Planned Targets Only' flag set, and no pre-planned targets in the list. So when assigned, they went home.

Created a new strike mission and assigned the airborne Intruders and it worked just fine here.

Have made just one tiny adjustment in B826: The user feedback will give a better description of the 'problem' when the pre-planned target list is empty.

Ok, thanks for looking at that. I was using the 1.10 version steam had pushed, I haven't tried it again since steam upgraded to 1.11.
