I lent it to a friend twenty years ago and never saw it again.

But I do have the pdf.

I used to hate that when it happened. I finally found a way to overcome my resentments towards those who borrowed things from me and didn't return them by adopting this simple philosophy: I considered anything I loaned to someone to be a "gift" until I got it back. Believe it or not, that relieved my mind.

I just replace it if I can.

Unfortunately, Aurelian, most of the unreturned items were old retail boxed PC games that I had purchased twenty or so years before. Most weren't rare, but it was just a hassle trying to get a boxed copy in as good a condition as those in my collection.

That sucks. The last time I lent out a game, the jerk gave it away. I made him pay retail price for it.

I didn't even play it anymore, (he didn't know that.), but that didn't give him the right to do that

I do remember that one, I never played it...a remake would be nice! [:)]

Here you can find a somewhat updated version:

IMHO Emperor of the Fading Suns is like a Sci-Fi WitP-AE, almost the same level of complexity and micromanagement.

Several companies have tried but none have succeeded in releasing an updated Master of Magic, my personal favorite PC game of all time.
Have you tried Age of Wonders series and Endless Legend yet?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Yes and yes. The Age of Wonders series is very good. It must be--I've repurchased all the old games in the AoW series as well as Age of Wonders III from GOG. I have also purchased Endless Legend and gave it a spin. But neither of them got it just right.

There are several other MoM wannabes out there but they missed the mark by even a wider margin.

Yeah, MOM felt like more of an adventure, the others just feel like strategy games with fantasy looking graphics and creatures. I like how they incorporated Civilization into the build and resource management of MOM. The music is 2nd to none and just feels right in a game like that.

AOW III left me wanting in the build dept. You just pick a building wait X# of turns an wallah it was there. You could manipulate farmers and production workers in MOM. Plus, your empire as a whole could be manipulated in that one city could be a great production city while another or two could be food production cities.

AOW I had the kind of siege for cities I liked but, they took it out in AOW III and made some kinda just this part of the castle walls are available to assault.

Now, I do like the combat tactical portion of AOW III (except for sieges) but, that is really about all. I would have liked more races like AOW I had, up to 15 I believe. AOW III allows you only to play with SIX. They just keep taking away it would seem.

MoM comes as close to being the perfect game as any.

The thing is the enormous content and most of it rather well balanced.

Hundreds of viable Wizards to create combined with over a dozen races =replayability unmatched.

I want a 1:1 remake, change *nothing* except remove the few bugs, make the unit graphics in tactical combat less blurred and let the AI expand faster. It should conquer neutral cities aggressively in the early game so as to stay competitive. Or else give neutrals a stronger garrison. That´s all.

How bout an updated remake of.... All older Matrix / Slitherine games that sound really cool but don't work well with modern systems .... Horse and Musket Vol I, Warplan Orange etc ....

Or cases of Abandonware like Time of Fury ..

Are you talking about working with Windows 10? They all work for Windows 7 (according to the store page)...

Hey hey HEY! AoW3 added character classes. Those add variety to any given race. I haven't played earlier games in the series, so I can't say would classes make as significant differences to elf race as those between wood elf and dark elf. But it adds something instead takes away.

I'm talking about doing a refresh on games that were originally designed for 1024 x 768 etc - and bringing them up to

today's standards. For the customer then : No twinking around with compatibility, Direct x versions, using Windowed mode, dealing with stretched

graphics.

Not all games (and associated potential revenue) would justify a complete over-haul I realize - but I think it would be reasonable

to do what Beamdog did with Baldur's Gate II. (ignore recent patch changes) where the characters are a bit pixelated

but overall the product looks good, plays in 1920 x 1080 and needs no real major tweaking in order to enjoy the game.

Like the idea of an updated Bismark, while your at it a new Iron Bottom sound & Jutland would be ok too. Along with AH Longest Day!

Yes, all of those classics would be welcome! [:)]

AOW I let you PICK the personalities of the AI races or let the computer randomize them. I'd rather have that than scripted AI races in AOW III. AOWIII took away more than it added imo.
