Weapon Accuracy

Post by Cepheiden »

How exactly does weapon accuracy work in this game?

Did some modding and testing and I just can't figure it out, basically just leaving me with a ton of questions...

1. Is a hit or miss already determined before the shot hits or is it an actual collision? Shots can hit other ships sometimes, yet they clearly go right through the target on other occasion.

2. Do different weapon types have different base accuracy? (apart from the obvious rail gun thing where it actually says -10%)

3. What exactly does the speed stat do? Didn't notice any difference in accuracy after changing that.

4. Does weapon damage or actual firing range have any influence on accuracy?

5. How big is the influence of the various difficulties?

6. How big is the influence of the extra % tracking or % evasion components? I have the feeling it doesn't do a thing.

So I know nothing about it and it hardly says anything in the manual or the game.

I think so. Try gravity weapons. You will be frustrated. Try a death ray. It almost never hits (for me).

I don't think so.

Yes, of course, but to what extent? Is it +x% of the original value? What is the original value? Or is it maybe +x% flat? Not to mention it isn't even clear whether the calculation is an actual collision detection or just some dice throw or maybe even both.

I am trying to mod some better balanced weapons into the game by calculating every factor, yet I have no way to account for accuracy. I don't even know what the speed stat does other than the displayed speed of the projectiles.

Anyway, thank you for the information you guys have provided so far.

the displayed speed of the projectiles

It is. See below. Value 4. From the Components.txt

Weapons: Value1=damage amount,
' Value2=range
' Value3=energy consumed per firing
' Value4=movement speed
' Value5=damage loss per 100 units range
' Value6=fire rate in milliseconds
' Value7=bombard damage amount

There is no way to change accuracy other than tracking and countermeasures.

I don't even know what the speed stat does other than the displayed speed of the projectiles.

It also, in conjunction with range, indirectly limits firing rate because only one shot from a weapon can be in existence at one time.
