Malta

Post by Giovanni705 »

Please help me. How do you take Malta? I bombed it with Italian navy and air for 3 turns, than sent an infantry army upgraded as a invasion transport. In malta there was a AA totally battered. But the transport never landed. Suggestions? Thanks in advance

there is another thread with a lot on this but, what I have done is after the fall of France move 4-5 German bombers to Sicily, bomb AA to death over 2-3 turns, and shell with the It navy then invade with the corps from N. Africa.

I'm not sure it's worth taking Malta before heading for the Nile, at least with current supply rules. As long as the Axis has two or more HQs in Libya/Egypt, their supply hardly seems to suffer from the Malta effect. The drop in the Port levels means it's slower to disembark reinforcing units, but that's really more of an inconvenience

This . You have Nothing important to do in August 40 unless you are in a Sealion opportunity .
You send all your bombers to Sicily, attack 2 times with fighter first to spend the 2 AA strikes then anihilate it with 5 +1 Italian bomber strikes .
The AA may survive the first wave but is dead the next turn .

This is infinitely faster and more efficient than juggling with 0 supply ports in Libya even if it is not a big deal either .
This also removes the only Allied port in the middle of Mediterranean so that the RN is now basically a sitting duck .

It can be taken. It's a pain, and it requires planned air-land-sea coordination, but it can be done.

No pain and no planning necessary .
5 German bombers and the one Italian in Sicily .
6 strikes per turn .
Malta AA dead in 2 turns .
Garrison or a para take Malta in the second turn .
Stop .
End .

You must be playing on an easier difficulty level than I am, or have far better luck.

It worked for me. Took me two turns of air attacks to destroy the AA unit. Dropped in an airborne unit immediately afterwards. I also operated a German HQ unit to Sicily prior to the attack for good measure.

Thanks to all for the tips. I've since taken Alexandria & hope to clear the remaining British units on the west side of the Nile during my next turn.
