I forgot that France had AA before I rolled. Do France want to use the AA? I can go back and re-roll.

No thanks.

No AA fire.

That's what I mean. You ground strike adjacent hex and AA gun gets disorganized, then you attack hex with AA gun [:D]

The ground strikes was a exercise in futility. No hits at all. Die rolls of 7, 8, 10, 7, and 5.

No rail movement.

Italian, and German forces advance into the French Alps and liberate Nice. Libyan territorial forces advance further into Algeria.

The Japanese armour advance into the central Chinese mountains and occupy Ankang. For some reason the US reacts with horror by the occupation of a city that no one in USA could even place on a map.

The other Japanese forces continue to manoeuvre in creating pockets of the Chinese defenders.

Over to Lord Warspite1 for the second part of the impulse.

Impulse: 8 (Axis)

Land Movement (Cont):
Germany

There are some detail changes to Army Group B, but the focus turns to eastern France and an attack by 3 armies of Army Group A - Panzergruppe Kleist (temporarily attached), 12th and 2nd Armies - against Metz and the surrounding coal-rich region.

Land Combat:
Germany

One attack against Metz

Japan

The Japanese attack the Chinese units blocking the Burma Road between Kweiyang and Chihkiang.

Land Combat:

There are no aircraft to bring in for the French or Chinese and neither the Germans nor the Japanese are interested in adding to their 5:1's. The two attacks are as follows:

Land Combat (cont):

In France, the surrounded units in Alsace-Lorraine are whittled down. The considerable defences provided by the Maginot forts are bypassed and few of Kleist's tanks are required in what is largely an infantry battle of the city. The French XII Corps is defeated in detail, overwhelmed by the Panzer IV's of the HG Panzer Division leaving the XV Garrison Corps to defend Metz. This they did valiantly but ultimately sheer weight of numbers told in favour of the attackers and both French corps are destroyed with little effect on the attacking force overall (a 5(6) is thrown). The LI Infantry Corps move into the city.

One of the great features of a computer game. I like the way the Fortress symbols disappear as they get destroyed. Here the Maginot Line consists of just one remaining hex.... Good work Steve!

Land Combat (cont):

The Japanese attack in China seems to have gone awry (I think). The fractional odds throw was 33 and the program indicates a column shift, but remains at 5:1. Guidance required here gents. This is vital too as is this shifts to 7:1 the result is completely different.....

I wonder if this could be corrupted due to saving the battle halfway through last night? I'll try re-loading just in case.

The shift is to 6:1 and since this is assault it has no effect because there are no 6:1 assault table and the attack remains at 5:1. If it would have been blitz it would have been a shift to the 6:1 blitz table. Working as intended, I suspect.

That is a shame. Okay what do you want to do vis-a-vis shattering/retreat?

It doesn't matter. The defender is destroyed either way. No retreat path.
