Hi Rico,

Thank you for your reply and the answers to my questions.

Hi All,

I wanted to post on the Slitherine site but it does not recognize my username with the unified log in. However Matrix does so I am posting here.

I have a few questions about FOG2 that I hope someone can answer.

1. Does terrain have an effect on combat and movement. If so is it "realistic" as games go.

2. Is there block movement for multiple units and if so does it work well.

3. What range do archers have. Are they effective.

4. As turn based is it wego?

5. Does the combat resolution seem reasonable to the periods and armies?
1- terrain has an effect on combat and movement. I do not know if it's realistic, all the witnesses of that time
are dead.
2- The block movement is used to move a set of units if they are far from the enemy. This accelerates positively the parts.
3-Archers have a maximum range of 4 squares with effective range of 2 squares.
4- IGOUGO only.
5- Overall yes, but I have also seen abbots like Roman legionaries who darken on Phalangists, killing
145 for the month of ten losses. The Triari are broken arms in the game!
6- The rest is fabulous. If you like the time, this game is unavoidable!

It must be translated by:
Stories of battles are almost non-existent or told decades later or by the winners who hide the mistakes made.
I can also make an appointment for you.[:D]

Most of my games for decades have been hex based, but many years ago, I also played on a sand table when a friend had miniatures of the entire Army of the Potomac and Army of Northern Virginia, so I love the graphics of this new game..

I took the plunge last night and it was no problem downloading from the site, and was able to apply the patch as well.

It will take me some time to learn this game so please don't expect any constructive comments from me until I am comfortable with it, lol....[:D]

Oh...I did opt to purchase the boxed version, as I do all my games, because I learned game value is the savings of playing great games over long periods of time, and for me, some games go thru several computers...[;)]

UPDATE:...Have played a couple of battles now in the tutorial and it is very obvious a lot went into the design of this game.
The tutorial itself lets you get familiar with all the different types of units thruout the different battles, and you learn how terrain and unit type relate to one another.
(Don't try to climb cliffs with elephants, lol).

Even though G.S.Patton is one of my heroes, and he constantly studied the battles of this game, I admit I have neglected my studies of the era, so for me, it is a learning experience, (which is a major good thing.)

The game itself is very "beer and pretzels", but with amazing animated graphics, (to include the bad Hollywood-type guy getting hit and twirling before he falls, lol).

This morning when I entered the game, I was notified new scenarios and Campaigns are already waiting to be downloaded, (showing the user-friendliness of the editor!)

I am sure this is a game we will be playing for years, and will be considered an "Age of Rifles" for this era of history...[&o]
