Need some newbie help with converting scenario

Post by Shadrach »

I've converted the scenario "Angola 71-74" to TOAW4, and while the conversion seems to be OK, I've had trouble making the game recognize the scenario image (BMP) and the documentation (DOC).

The doc button is not activated and the background image is not showing.

My assumption was that with a bmp named the same as the scenario, in the same folder, and correct format (295x298x8BPP) would show.
And that a doc file with the same name in the same folder would be recognized as documentation.

Do I have to somehow connect these things to the scenario in the editor, if so where? I can't find references to the bmp/doc files looking at other scenarios.

Certainly not a huge thing, but I'd like to know what I'm doing wrong. Probably something really lame I reckon... [&:]

Attaching the files as well, if others could test it would be helpful.

Just dump the files in the scenario folder, and as you menitoned, they got to have the same name.

Thanks Oberst, that's what I've done, but it still won't stick.

Stian

dump the .SCE and all the other files in a .ZIP and let me have a look at it. You did successfully convert it from CoW to TOAW III though, right?

I just took the files you put in the opening post, passed them through the TOAW 4 editor and ready to go:

OK, I didn't notice that Stian already posted them. And yes, works just fine here, too. Enjoy the 'Rumble in the Jungle', Stian :D

Well that's weird. I loaded the old scenario into the editor and saved it. But apparently that wasn't enough?

Not sure what is meant by that - do I need to first convert to TOAW3 for it to work? [&:]

And I already ran it through the editor, and the scenario itself loaded fine, just the bmp and doc missing. So not sure what you did JapLance, but thanks a lot, I will try the ones you made [:)]

Did you do anything in the editor apart from loading and then saving?

Nope. Just opened and saved it overwriting the original.

If you still have problems with it I can upload it here.

Well, Norsk barn... knock yourself out :) Next year in Oslo, Tromsö or Bergen? I am tempted to visit your country... not only because of the Tirpitz you see?

Have a good one, Stian.

This may be stupid to say, but I was looking at everything myself and couldn't see a problem, then I thought about the Save process - you have to watch closely where things are being saved. TOAW will save to the last Game folder opened, not the last Editor folder opened, so you may have accidentally saved it to a different folder from the one you are opening it from.
Glad it is working now.
