Review - shows a bit about Ageod system too.

Ageod’s Wars of Succession is a new game designed to cover two major wars that consumed Europe at the eve of the 18th Century.

Good review in terms of game mechanics. I bought Spanish Succession (WOSS) in January and have played every scenario from both sides. I have also played the American Revolution and Civil War by AGEOD, and enjoyed them both. It is a great gaming system and fantastic graphics and ease of understanding. The Game Manual needs greater elaboration, and some of the English phraseology in the game messages is, well entertainingly incorrect. Some other issues: Leader can besiege cities all by themselves. Yep, done it. Leaders of eliminated units can jump across Europe (or the Mediterranean Sea) instantaneously to join other friendly units. (Seen it) A few recommended changes: When friendly and enemy ships are sunk, it would be handy to know which ones are gone. I haven't figured that out, if it is possible. When an entire unit is destroyed, that's displayed in Red, but not individual ship losses. Also I lost 9 ships in an Atlantic storm (that really hurt) and the messages told me the names, but I couldn't determine the type of ships gone to Davy Jones. Also would be handy to report in messages when enemy leaders have been KIA or WIA in battle. We would know this in many cases -- like by finding the body on the battlefield. Can river flotillas block enemy river crossings? I tried but not sure if it worked. It appeared to until the enemy made a crossing...Agh. Sometimes messages conflict. You'll be told that you're besieging XX, and nothing happened this month. Then get another message that your forces stopped their assault due to exhaustion, ammo, etc., then get another message that the assault was successful and the city is yours! hmmm. Have not yet been able to do a fleet bombardment. Always told that no matter what ships I have in my stack, they don't have the right guns/range... Also, when you have stacks in a country that leave the war (e.g., Portugal, Britain), your armies will be trapped there, as they cannot enter regions of that country, nor can they board ships off shore. They're stuck there for the duration (unless you disband them, with attendant loss of morale, etc.) My biggest issue is duration. This is the NEVER ENDING WAR. Again, having played all sides, a good example is the Bourbons, After invading Britain and Portugal, and controlling London, Portsmouth, Reading, Dover, Colchester, Ipswich, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Perth, Lisbon + all other Portuguese cities, and Gibraltar, all of Northern Italy, all of Holland, Bremen, Hamburg, and every German, Bavarian and HRE city except Glogau (which I can't reach for some reason), and virtually every city in Austria, the computer won't sue for peace and the game won't declare me the winner. I got Britain and Portugal out, and spent the EPs and to get the rest of the GR to quit (Treaty of Rastatt, or someplace), BUT NO... (In 1708 I got tired of hunting down rebels and small German/Austrian/Dutch remnants that take refuge in the neutral states, where I can't go, so I'm about to just turn the thing off...) The greatest impediment to success is the game mechanism that decides to lower your National Morale Points to "rebalance" the game. So no matter how successful I am, I can't build up to 150 NM, and keep getting leveled to 120. THAT"S DUMB. So, until these are patched, I'm done with this game, although I love it. Generally, as the previous commentator implied, the key to victory is SUPPLY and REPLACEMENTS. Watch your wagons, and check your replacement levels. Move your stacks to cities with depots (and build depots) to collect replacements. If you're the Bourbons, get the Hungarian Revolution going as soon as possible. It's much more powerful and effective than the Bavarian armies (although these are the second thing to save up EP for). As the Grand Alliance, use your studs (Eugene, Marlborough, Baden) and exterior lines of mobility (British and Dutch Fleets) to hammer the Bourbons fast and furious to keep their NM down so they are delayed in bringing in their allies (Bavaria, Hungary). Take Gibraltar/Cadiz. They are key and essential to launching a "second front" in Spain and key to quickly getting Portugal into the game. Get to Madrid, and deny the Bourbons those annual NM, VP and EPs for holding Madrid and Paris. Don't mess with overseas possessions. They absorb resources and offer little to victory. And watch/garrison your major seaports. The computer will attempt landings at Hamburg and Bremen, for example, to take these major trade ports away from the Grand Alliance. Anyway, that's my take.
